A concrete surface with a cold joint, dowel slip system and method for forming that surface are provided. Baseplates having tubular projections are fastened to at least one first form using fasteners extending part way into the first form, with the first form forming part of a periphery of a first concrete slab. When the first form is removed, the baseplates, projections and fasteners remain embedded in the first concrete slab. Slip dowels are inserted into the tubular projections and a second concrete is poured adjoining the first concrete slab, with the second concrete embedding the slip dowels, backplates and projecting distal ends of the fasteners and forming a cold joint.

An assembly for clamping formwork boards for forming an elongate slab having a lower base and an upper shaped gutter, includes first and second posts to be disposed on opposite sides of the slab to be formed. There is a formwork board clamping device for mounting to the posts, having jaws, the jaws including a first jaw mounted to the first post for retaining a first formwork board that forms a first side of the slab, and a second jaw mounted to the second post for retaining a second formwork board the forms a second side of the slab and a second side of the gutter. The second jaw has a post mount for a third board holder. The third board holder extends from the second jaw for retaining a third formwork board to be held over the slab to be formed that forms a first side of the gutter.

Tool for forming a cavity in a modular pavement slab and method of fabricating pavement slabs

A form for forming a modular pavement slab with long and short cavities alternatingly formed around its periphery includes a header and a plurality of short and long forming tools. The header includes an inner vertical surface that defines a portion of the periphery of the modular pavement slab. The short forming tool includes an elongate body defining a longitudinal axis and having a proximal end positioned against the inner vertical surface of the header. The elongate body has a longitudinal bore therethrough and a riser bore defining an axis that is noncollinear to the longitudinal axis. A riser is releasably coupled to the riser bore. The long forming tool is substantially similar to the short forming tool. The elongate body, however, is longer than the short forming tool and includes two riser bores. A riser is releasably coupled to each respective riser bore.

CONCRETE DOWEL SYSTEM
20200149228 · 2020-05-14 ·

A dowel placement system including a fastener configured to be engageable with a form, and a radially compressible bushing coupled to the fastener and defining an adjustable outer diameter. The system further includes an elongate dowel sleeve having opposed proximal and distal end portions, and an axial opening having an inner diameter and extending into the dowel sleeve from the proximal end portion to the distal end portion. The bushing is insertable within the axial opening of the dowel sleeve, and the bushing and dowel sleeve are configured such that insertion of the bushing within the dowel sleeve causes the outer diameter of the bushing to compress and conform to the inner diameter of the dowel sleeve and to create a friction force between the bushing and the dowel sleeve to mitigate movement of the dowel sleeve relative to the bushing during formation of the concrete structure.

Load transfer plate and method of employing same

Various embodiments of the present disclosure provide a load transfer plate including a non-symmetrically shaped body having a semi-cylindrical first portion configured to protrude into and be secured in the first cast-in-place concrete slab and a non-semi cylindrical second portion configured to protrude into a load transfer plate pocket secured in the second cast-in-place concrete.

Field-assembly concrete dowel basket
10280568 · 2019-05-07 · ·

A field-assembly dowel basket for concrete construction configured for in-the-field assembly from standardized components. This allows a number of standard components, including clips, connectors and wire frame components, to be conveniently transported and stored on construction sites to facilitate on-site assembly of dowel baskets on an as-needed, where-needed basis. Since the dowel basket components are much smaller than assembled baskets, they can be shipped and stored much more cost effectively. Standardization of components allows mass production, consolidates inventory management, and avoids the need for ad hoc fabrication for each construction site. On-site fabrication largely eliminates welding from the dowel basket fabrication process (wire frame clips may involve welding), avoids shipping of fabricated dowel baskets, and allows assembly of dowel basket by construction workers as opposed to highly skilled welding shops.
