Biochar containment boom and blanket
11499281 · 2022-11-15 · ·

A water remediation device is disclosed, including a water-permeable outer fabric defining a cavity therein, a buoyant core disposed within the cavity, and a mass of water remediation media including biochar disposed between the buoyant core and the water-permeable outer fabric. The remediation media is configured to reduce a quantity of a polyfluoroalkyl substance present in a sample of contaminated water when the remediation device is placed in the sample of contaminated water. The device may be formed into an elongated boom that is configured to float on or partially-submerge in water. Alternatively, the device may be formed of a pad or blanket that may be entirely submerged in water during use.

A High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) marine boom includes an elongated generally cylindrical shell including inner and outer layers formed from HDPE with the same formulation. The inner layer includes at least 2% carbon black by mass and the outer layer does not include carbon black. The outer layer includes a colorant with ultraviolet stabilizers and the inner layer does not include the colorant. The inner layer is thicker than the outer layer and they have been coextruded to form a unitary body. First and second caps, each including a radially extending circumferential annular flange, formed from the same material as the outer layer are fusion welded to the shell across the full thickness and around a full circumference of first ends and second ends of the shell and form a watertight seal. A floatation billet is in the shell. A lug plate for the HDPE marine boom is also disclosed.

Self-expanding spill containment boom

Some embodiments relate to a boom for containing floating material spilled in water comprising: an elongate sheet comprising a plurality of spaced apart units, each unit configured to self-expand from a folded state upon deployment; each unit comprising: a plurality of plates forming an upper portion and a lower portion, the upper portion and the lower portion defined along a vertical axis of the boom unit; and a plurality of stiffening elongate rods, each of the plurality of elongate rods interconnecting at least two plates.

HDPE marine boom with axial passage and chain stop

A marine boom system includes at least one HDPE marine boom with an axial passage for mounting on a chain and a chain stop. The boom includes a shell defining a cavity with watertight caps having central apertures on the ends. An axial passageway pipe is disposed longitudinally along a center axis, and extends through the apertures and beyond the ends of the shell. A floatation billet is disposed within the shell. A chain is disposed in the axial passageway pipe and extends beyond the ends of the axial passageway pipe. The stop including at least one assembly piece may be fastened to the chain and disposed within an end of the pipe. The assembly piece includes a semi-cylindrical main body with passageway formed therein and has a protrusion about one passageway and a recess about another. A flange and a link saddle extend from the main body.
