An articulated concrete block system that includes a gabion mattress drainage layer. The two major components of the system reduce the effects of erosion and increase the hydraulic stability in areas that experience high velocity water flows, hydraulic jumps, and will dissipate wave energy action for shoreline and coastal erosion. Geosynthetics are first placed on the ground surface, followed by a gabion mattress drainage layer, a smaller aggregate layer for fine grading, another optional geosynthetic layer, and then the articulated concrete blocks overlie the system.

A method of constructing a sliding subset foundation comprises embedding at least one mass of rocks in seabed soil and placing a sliding mudmat on the seabed over the or each mass of rocks. The rocks may be lowered into a cavity in the seabed by dumping the rocks into the cavity or when contained within a gabion that is inserted into the cavity. Alternatively, a gabion containing the rocks may penetrate the seabed soil, driven by self-weight or additionally by a deadweight bearing on the gabion. The gabion may be lowered toward tie seabed suspended from the deadweight. The deadweight may be removed and recovered after the gabion has been embedded in the seabed. The mass of rocks are embedded within an area of excursion of the mudmat to ensure that the mudmat will be directly above the mass of rocks at any position within the area of excursion.

An erosion prevention system, a cell assembly and a kit of parts for such a system, and methods of making and installing such an erosion prevention system is disclosed. A cell assembly (2501) may comprise a plurality of cells (2520a, 2520b, 2520c) for containment of rock pieces, each cell having a bottom, sides/ends and a top each formed from wire mesh. A continuous length of wire mesh may wrap around and defines the upper, lower (2502) and end faces (2503a, 2503b) of the cell assembly (2501), the ends of the length being fastened together at an overlapping join positioned on the upper and/or end of the cell assembly. The continuous length of chain-link wire mesh may extend beyond at least one side face (2503d) of the cell assembly, thereby being configured to overlap at least a portion of the lower, upper and end faces of a corresponding second cell assembly when positioned side by side. The wire mesh may be chain-link wire mesh.

CELLULAR CONFINEMENT SYSTEM AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREOF

A cellular confinement system includes PET sheets and honeycomb-shaped cells formed by intercrossing the PET sheets. A connecting hole is provided at a joint where the PET sheets are intercrossed. An injection molded fixing component for connecting the PET sheets is provided at the connecting hole. The injection molded fixing component includes an injection molded rod arranged in the connecting hole and fixing plates each arranged to be fixedly connected to a corresponding end of two ends of the injection molded rod. The fixing plates each fits against a side wall of a corresponding PET sheet. The injection molded fixing component includes the injection molded rod and the fixing piece. The injection molded rod is configured to connect the PET sheets at the joint where the PET sheets are intercrossed. The fixing plate is configured to prevent the PET sheets from being disengaged from the injection molded rod.

The steel wires (300) further have an intermediate metallic coating (306) of zinc or an zinc aluminium alloy or a zinc aluminium magnesium alloy on the steel core (302). The steel wires (300) further have a top coating of a polymer (310). This polymer (310) is a high density polyethylene.

A transportable, flexible rope net gabion useful for scour protection includes a lifting ring, a plurality of polymer ropes connected to the lifting ring, a polymer net connected to the polymer ropes, and a plurality of stones or boulders. Up to 45% of the volume of the polymer net is packed with the stones or boulders, so that the rope net gabion can be evenly positioned around a structure to be supported. The polymer ropes, the polymer net, or both the polymer ropes and the polymer net are made using virgin high density polyethylene (HDPE).
