Method and apparatus for sealing a side pocket mandrel
11555354 · 2023-01-17 · ·

A method for sealing a side pocket mandrel and hydraulic tube includes moving a sealant dispenser into a pocket of the side pocket mandrel from within a well tubing. The sealant dispenser has an upper seal and a lower seal spaced apart therefrom; the seals are sealingly engaged with the pocket. A space between the upper seal and the lower seal is in fluid communication with at least one port in the pocket. A curable sealant is moved from the sealant dispenser into the pocket and into the tube. Either the sealant is allowed to cure or the sealant dispenser is unlatched from a running tool used to move the sealant dispenser into the pocket.

DOWNHOLE PACKER SUITABLE FOR SMART WELL COMPLETION

The present invention addresses to an improvement in a conventional packer, comprising the installation of an upper connector, a lower connector and an inner tube, adapted to allow the passage of hydraulic control lines and/or electrical cables internally to the packer mandrel, without interference with the passage of tools or flow. The conventional packer transformed according to the present invention aims at allowing controlling, from the surface, hydraulic equipment (sliding sleeve valves) or transmitting/receiving data from flow rate, pressure and temperature sensors (PDG—Permanent Downhole Gauge) that are positioned in the production string below the packer. The packer according to the present invention comprises an adapted upper connection (40), an adapted lower connection (50), and an inner tube (62), through which control lines or electrical cables internally pass.

METHOD FOR PACKAGING COMPONENTS, ASSEMBLIES AND MODULES IN DOWNHOLE TOOLS

The apparatus may include a tool conveyed by a conveyance device. The tool has a body with a load bearing section, an outer surface defined by a diameter, a rotational axis, and a channel in the body extending from an opening at the outer surface. At least a part of the channel is inclined relative to the rotational axis of the body at the axial location of the opening in the body. The apparatus also includes at least one functional element disposed in the channel; and a conduit operatively connected to the at least one functional element transferring at least one of: (i) energy, (ii) a signal, (iii) a fluid, (iv) and formation material. Alternatively, the apparatus includes at least one self-contained functional element disposed in the channel.

Cable Connectors for Use Downhole

A cable system for use downhole includes a connector assembly having a body and a bore formed therethrough; a conductor disposed through the bore of the connector assembly; and a first insulation layer disposed around the conductor. An insulator tube is disposed around the conductor and has an end attached to the first insulation layer. The insulator tube may be made of a thermoplastic material. A graphite containing sealing member is disposed in the bore and disposed between the insulator tube and the body of the connector assembly.

Earth model generation via measurements

A method includes receiving information for a subsurface region; based at least in part on the information, identifying sub-regions within the subsurface region; assigning individual identified sub-regions a dimensionality of a plurality of different dimensionalities that correspond to a plurality of different models; via a model-based computational framework, generating at least one result for at least one of the individual identified sub-regions based at least in part on at least one assigned dimensionality; and consolidating the at least one result for multiple sub-regions.

Side-exit motor cable connections

Systems and methods for connecting power cables to downhole equipment such as ESPs using side-exit (radial) connections. In one embodiment, a system includes an electric drive coupled by a power cable to an ESP. The electric drive is positioned at the surface of a well with the power cable coupled to it. The power cable extends into the well bore and is coupled to the downhole equipment which is positioned in the well bore. The power cable has a connector with a first set of radially oriented terminals (the terminals are perpendicular to the conductors of the power cable). These terminals engage a second set of terminals that are installed in the downhole equipment. The radial orientation of the terminals of the connector and downhole equipment allow the power cable to remain axially oriented, thereby facilitating engagement of the terminals and requiring less annular space in the well bore.

Pack-off assembly for wireline pressure-control operations

The described pack-off assembly includes a tubular sleeve that is configured to selectively encompass a pack-off wireline seal and that is positionable through selective application of pressurized fluid to one or more actuation chambers that interact with a piston portion of the sleeve. Pressure may be applied to position the sleeve to encompass the seal to engage a wireline and enable pressure-control wireline operations. A different pressure may be applied to position the sleeve to expose the seal for servicing.

Multiple control line travel joint with injection line capability

A multiple control line travel joint is disclosed having at least one non-coiled, fluid control line and at least one internal control line, such as a hydraulic, electrical, or fiber optic control line. The fluid control line can include an upper control line that enters the travel joint at a top port and a lower control line that exits out a bottom port of the travel joint. The top port and bottom port can be fluidly coupled through a sealed chamber in the travel joint. The second control line can be coiled within the sealed chamber. As the travel joint expands and contracts, the sealed chamber expands and contracts while remaining sealed, maintaining sealed fluid coupling between the top port and the bottom port.
