Data Transmission In Drilling Operation Environments
Apparatus, systems, and methods may operate to transmit a data signal along a transmission line extending lengthwise along a drill string, the transmission line comprising an outer conductive path provided by a tubular wall of a drill pipe that extends along the drill string; and an internal conductive path extending along an interior passage that is bounded by a radially inner cylindrical surface of the drill pipe and along which drilling fluid is conveyed, the inner conductive path being substantially insulated from the outer conductive path. Additional apparatus, systems, and methods are described.
Seal and insulator for pipe having an insulated electrical conductor
A pipe segment having an insulated electrical conductor includes a first electrical contact disposed at one end of an electrical conductor on an interior of the pipe segment from a male threaded connection on one end to a female threaded connection on the other end of the pipe segment. A second electrical contact is on the other end of the insulated electrical conductor. The first contact makes electrical connection with the second contact in an adjacent segment when the male connection on one segment is engaged to the female connection on the adjacent segment. A seal disposed on an interior of an insulating layer on an interior wall of each respective pipe segment provides a space beyond the end of the seal to enable inward flexure of the seal under pressure such that lubricant extruded by connecting the male threaded end and the female threaded end is pressure relieved.
LOW-POWER MICROWAVE CORING MACHINE SUITABLE FOR LUNAR ROCKS AND METHOD OF USING THE SAME
The invention relates to a low-power microwave coring machine suitable for lunar rocks and a use method. The low-power microwave coring machine suitable for lunar rocks comprises an equipment platform, wherein the support framework front plate and the support framework rear plate are mounted on the equipment platform in a sliding manner, a rear end surface of the support framework rear plate is connected with a front end of the microwave generator mounted on the equipment platform, a rear end of the microwave generator is sequentially connected with the fixed waveguide, the rotary waveguide, the power divider and the drill drum, the high-precision slip ring structure is mounted on the drill drum, the gear ferrules are arranged on an outer wall of the rotary waveguide and an outer wall of the drill drum.
Electrical isolation in transferring power and data signals between completion systems in a downhole environment
A first completion system with electrical isolation, electronics, and a first side of a coupler is installed in a borehole drilled in a geological formation. A second completion system is installed in the borehole after installation of the first completion system. The second completion system has a second side of the coupler aligned with the first side of the coupler and an umbilical which carries power from a surface of the geological formation to the second side of the coupler. Power is sent from the second side of the coupler to the first side of the coupler, from the first side of the coupler to a first side of the electrical isolation, and from the first side of the electrical isolation to a second side of the electrical isolation via an isolation barrier. The power at the second side of the electrical isolation is provided to the electronics.
Transmission line tension anchor for drill string components
An apparatus for retaining a transmission line within a drill string component includes a drill string component comprising a bore having an internal diameter. A slot is formed in the internal diameter to receive a transmission line. A shoulder within the slot is configured to engage a tension anchor attached to the transmission line. The tension anchor is configured to hold tension in the transmission line. The tension anchor includes a first component that is attached to the transmission line, and a second component that is threaded onto the first component. In certain embodiments, the second component contains a connector configured to enable connection to the transmission line. A corresponding system is also disclosed.
Data transmission system
A gap sub uses a plurality of insulating members in conjunction with at least two metallic members to effect a mechanically and electrically robust configuration. The gap sub includes an upper end portion, a lower end portion, an outer sleeve, an inner sleeve, an insulating outer washer, an insulating inner washer, and an insulating spider. The insulating outer washer is configured to transfer a first axial load between the upper end portion and the outer sleeve. The insulating inner washer is configured to transfer a second axial load between the inner sleeve and the lower end portion. The insulating spider is configured to transfer a torsional load between outer sleeve and the inner sleeve. Because the insulating washers are utilized to transfer axial loads and the insulating spider is utilized to transfer torsional loads, each insulator may be manufactured so that the strongest axis of the material can be optimally and advantageously oriented to be coincident with the forces applied to each insulator, thereby making the gap sub more mechanically robust than a conventional insulated gap collar while permitting reliable and fast transmission of sensor data to the surface.
MULTI-STAGE WIRELESS COMPLETIONS
Wireless power and telemetry systems for multi-stage completions are provided. Various configurations for couplers, e.g., electro-magnetic couplers, for use in such systems are also provided.
Method and apparatus for testing of the downhole connector electrical system during installation
Disclosed are methods and devices for testing downhole connector electrical systems and cable integrity during installation of a permanent completion, including a customized retrievable plug arm assembly connectable to the completion during RIH, the tool mimicking a retrievable ESP, but without motor, and can be employed with or without pressure isolation. Another method employs a slidable starpoint located within the downhole wet mate connector of the completion to provide continuous electrical contact between the phases when no retrievable assembly is in place. When a retrievable assembly is later put in place, the slidable starpoint is moved into a second position that no longer provides electrical contact between the phases. Another method uses fusible links installed between two conductors within the downhole electrical connector system of the completion to provide similar electrical contact between phases, the fusible link configured to melt away once motor current is sent through the conductors.
SUBSEA CONNECTOR
A configurable subsea wet-mateable connector includes a receptacle connector body and a plug connector body. The subsea receptacle connector unit includes at least two receptacle inserts chosen from at least one of a power connector unit, a data connector unit, an optical fibre connector unit, a pneumatic connector unit or a fluid connector unit. The subsea plug connector unit includes at least two plug inserts having the same two of a power connector unit, a data connector unit, an optical fibre connector unit, a pneumatic connector unit or a fluid connector unit.

An apparatus having one or more printed electrical interconnections is disclosed. The apparatus may include a chassis component of a drill string. The chassis component is configured to receive an electronic component. The apparatus also includes one or more printed electrical interconnections disposed proximate to the chassis. The one or more printed electrical interconnections are configured to communicatively connect with the electronic component.
