An airfoil assembly includes first and second fiber-reinforced composite airfoil rings each having inner and outer platform sections. A sealing shelf extends from a suction side wall of one of the first and second fiber-reinforced composite airfoil rings, and towards the pressure side wall of the other of the rings. A first seal is captured radially inwardly of the sealing shelves on outer platforms of each of the first and second fiber-reinforced composite airfoil rings. A second seal is captured inward of the sealing shelves on the inner platforms of each of the first and second fiber-reinforced composite rings to provide a seal between the respective first and second fiber-reinforced composite airfoil rings, and a captured internal component. A gas turbine engine is also disclosed.

Modulated turbine component cooling

Features and methods for modulating a flow of cooling fluid to gas turbine engine components are provided. In one embodiment, an airfoil is provided having a flow modulation insert for modulating a flow of cooling fluid received in a cavity of a body of the airfoil. In another embodiment, a shroud is provided comprising a cooling channel for a flow of cooling fluid and an insert that varies in position to modulate the flow of cooling fluid through the cooling channel. In yet another embodiment, a method for operating a gas turbine engine having a cooling circuit for cooling one or more components of the gas turbine engine comprises increasing power provided to the engine and decreasing power provided to the engine to modulate a position of a flow modulation insert located in the cooling circuit and thereby modulate the flow of cooling fluid through the cooling circuit.

A method and casting core for forming a landing for welding a baffle inserted into an airfoil are disclosed, wherein the baffle landing of the blade or vane is formed in investment casting by the casting core rather than by wax, reducing tolerances and variability in the location of the baffle inserted into the cooling cavity of airfoil when the baffle is welded to the baffle landing.

A gas turbine engine includes a turbine section that has a plurality of turbine vanes. Each of the turbine vanes includes inner and outer platforms and an airfoil section that extends there between. The airfoil section is hollow and rib-less and has a first end at the outer platform and a second end at the inner platform. The airfoil section is tangentially bowed from the first end to the second end with a radius of curvature that is from 17 centimeters to 130 centimeters.

Turbine engine airfoil and method of cooling

A component, such as for a turbine engine, can include an airfoil with an outer wall defining an exterior surface bounding an interior and defining a pressure side and a suction side extending between a leading edge and a trailing edge to define a chord-wise direction and extending between a root and a tip to define a span-wise direction. The component can also include at least one cooling passage within the interior.

A turbine engine having a compressor section, a combustor section, a turbine section, and a rotatable drive shaft that couples a portion of the turbine section and a portion of the compressor section. A bypass conduit couples the compressor section to the turbine section while bypassing at least the combustion section. At least one particle separator is located in the turbine engine having a separator inlet that receives a bypass stream, a separator outlet that receives a reduced-particle stream flows, and a particle outlet that receives a concentrated-particle stream comprising separated particles. A conduit, fluidly coupled to the particle outlet, extends through an interior of at least one stationary vane.

An airfoil includes an airfoil section that has an airfoil wall that defines leading and trailing ends and first and second sides that join the leading and trailing ends. The first and second sides span in a longitudinal direction between first and second ends. The airfoil wall circumscribes an internal core cavity. A platform is attached with the first end of the airfoil wall. The platform includes an opening that opens into the internal core cavity and a land region that circumscribes the opening. A baffle is formed of a tube and an attachment portion. The tube extends in the internal core cavity and the attachment portion has a flange ring that is affixed to the platform at the land region.

A gas turbine engine article includes a baffle that is configured to be mounted in a cavity of a gas turbine engine component. The baffle has a baffle wall that circumscribes an open interior region. The baffle wall includes a forward wall, side walls, and an aft wall. The side walls include impingement orifices, and the aft wall defines two datum features. At least one of the datum features is a dimple that is a portion of a sphere.

The turbine nozzle assembly may include a turbine nozzle extending from an inner diameter to an outer diameter and having an airfoil-shaped cross section having a leading edge and a trailing edge, and a pressure side and a suction side each of which extends from the leading edge to the trailing edge, wherein the turbine nozzle may include a hollow airfoil including a plurality of cavities positioned in the airfoil, an insert positioned in one or more of the plurality of cavities of the hollow airfoil, a plurality of cover plates, at least one of which is positioned at one of the inner diameter and at the outer diameter, and a plurality of impingement pans, at least one of which is positioned at one of the inner diameter and at the outer diameter.

An example airfoil is disposed in a flow path, the airfoil including a shell defining an exterior surface of the airfoil and forming a cavity in an interior surface of the airfoil, and a lattice damper disposed in the cavity, the lattice damper to reduce vibrational loads exerted on the airfoil.
