In one example, a cylinder includes a combustion chamber which is jointly formed by a piston crown of a piston, by a cylinder barrel which laterally delimits the combustion chamber, and by a cylinder head. The cylinder includes an injection device positioned in the cylinder barrel for direct introduction of fuel into the combustion chamber, which injection device has at least one opening which, during a course of an injection process, is configured to be activated to introduce fuel into the combustion chamber, the injection device terminating flush, at a combustion chamber side, with the cylinder barrel.
AIR BLEED VALVE FOR VENTING TRAPPED AIR WITHIN AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM
An apparatus and methods are provided for removing trapped air from a cooling system of an internal combustion engine. The apparatus includes an air bleed valve configured to allow the trapped air to be vented from a water jacket comprising an engine cylinder head. The air bleed valve is coupled with a hollow portion disposed at a top of the cylinder head. A topmost chamber within the hollow portion is in fluid communication with the water jacket. The water jacket includes angled upper walls near the hollow portion configured to direct the trapped air into the topmost chamber. An air bleed line is coupled with the air bleed valve and configured to direct the trapped air out of the topmost chamber to a suitable coolant reservoir.
Water cooled engine
There is provided a water cooled engine including a cylinder head with minimized thermal strain. A head water jacket includes an inter-exhaust-port-wall water channel between a first exhaust entrance port wall and a second exhaust entrance port wall. A cylinder head includes a cooling water injection passage provided at a bottom wall of the cylinder head. The cooling water injection passage is positioned on the exhaust end side, and includes a passage entrance provided on the exhaust end side, and a passage exit directed toward the inter-exhaust-port-wall water channel. An exhaust port wall includes a heat dissipation fin extending from a first exhaust entrance port wall toward an exhaust end. The space between the heat dissipation fin and a second exhaust entrance port wall forms a water channel entrance of the inter-exhaust-port-wall water channel.
ENGINE ASSEMELY PROVIDED WITH AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE COOLED BY A PHASE CHANGE MATERIAL
An engine assembly is provided with a split-cycle internal combustion engine having a compression section and an expansion section and with a cooling circuit for circulating a heat-exchange fluid; said fluid has a boiling temperature such that at least a fraction of the fluid changes phase from liquid to vapour flowing through the expansion section of the engine, when the latter operates in steady conditions; the circuit comprises a turbine arranged downstream of the engine so as to receive vapour and produce mechanical energy from the expansion of the vapour.
Engine power module and cylinder head for same
An engine power module includes a water jacket, a cylinder liner, and a cylinder head. The water jacket forms a coolant supply conduit arranged in a lower coolant annulus extending around the cylinder liner and an upper coolant annulus extending around the cylinder head. The cylinder head has formed therein an injector bore, and a plurality of drill holes convergent on the injector bore. A lower coolant cavity in the cylinder head forms a coolant flow path extending circumferentially around the injector bore between a cavity inlet opening fluidly connected to the coolant supply conduit, and a cavity connection opening fluidly connected to an upper coolant cavity. The arrangement provides flows of coolant through the drill holes to cool an injector sleeve, and separate coolant flows through the lower coolant cavity and upper coolant cavity.
ENGINE SYSTEM
An engine system is provided, including an engine having a water jacket, a circulation system that circulates coolant through the water jacket, and a controller. The circulation system includes a radiator passage including a heat exchanger, a bypass passage bypassing the heat exchanger, a flow rate control device, and a thermally-actuated valve connected to the radiator passage and that opens to allow the coolant to pass through the heat exchanger. When an engine load is below a first load, the controller controls the flow rate control device to adjust the coolant flow rate flowing through the water jacket according to the load, by closing the radiator passage and adjusting the coolant flow rate flowing through the bypass passage. When the load is above the first load, the controller controls the flow rate control device so that the coolant flows through each of the radiator passage and the bypass passage.
ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM
An engine cooling system is provided, which includes a water jacket through which coolant flows, a heat exchanger that cools the coolant, a bypass passage that bypasses the heat exchanger and recirculates the coolant to the water jacket, a first radiator passage that recirculates the coolant to the water jacket via the heat exchanger, a flow control device installed at a location where a coolant passage branches into the bypass passage and the first radiator passage, a second radiator passage that bypasses the flow control device and is connected to the first radiator passage, and a thermally-actuated valve installed in the second radiator passage. The flow control device performs a water flow control to adjust a coolant amount flowing into the water jacket by adjusting a coolant amount flowing through the bypass passage. The coolant flows into the first radiator passage through the second radiator passage, when the valve opens.
