Engine exhaust temperature control

Methods and systems for improving operation of an engine at higher speeds and loads are disclosed. In one example, fuel may be injected to an exhaust system of the engine so that temperatures of exhaust system components may be reduced when the engine is operated at higher speeds and loads.

Burner

A burner includes a tubular inner tube portion and a tubular outer tube portion. The inner tube portion mixes fuel with air. The outer tube portion surrounds the inner tube portion. A peripheral wall of the inner tube portion has a gaseous mixture outflow hole. The gaseous mixture outflow hole causes a clearance between an inner peripheral surface of the outer tube portion and an outer peripheral surface of the inner tube portion to communicate with an interior of the inner tube portion. A peripheral wall of the outer tube portion has an air supplying hole. The air supplying hole further supplies air to the clearance.

Exhaust gas bypass valve system for a turbocharged engine

An exhaust gas diverter valve coupled within a pipe comprises a housing having a passage therethrough, a valve member rotatably coupled within the housing the valve member rotates about a valve axis. A first valve seat mat be disposed partially circumferentially within said passage and extending radially inwardly.

Integrated turbo-compressor with variable gear ratio transmission for internal combustion engine

An integrated turbo-compressor includes a compressor with a compressor outlet, a turbine with a turbine inlet, the turbine operatively connected to the compressor by an interconnect shaft, and a compounding drive. The compounding drive is connected to the turbine and has a variable gear ratio and an output member, the variable gear ratio coupling the turbine to the output member to compound output of an internal combustion engine using energy recovered from an exhaust flow received from the internal combustion engine and in excess of energy required to compress combustion air provided to the internal combustion engine. Internal combustion engines, aircraft, and methods of compounding output of internal combustion engines are also described.

An internal combustion engine includes an intake conduit fluidically coupled to ambient fluid and having an internal cross-sectional area and an engine cylinder fluidically coupled to the intake conduit. A fluidic amplifier is disposed within the intake conduit and is fluidically coupled to the ambient fluid and engine cylinder. The amplifier is further fluidically coupled to a source of primary fluid and is configured to introduce the primary fluid and at least a portion of the ambient fluid to the engine cylinder.

Compressor of a turbocharger having an air recirculation valve and turbocharger and motor vehicle having such a compressor

A compressor of a turbocharger is provided. The compression pipe of the compressor is connected to the intake pipe thereof by a return flow duct, in which an air recirculation valve is arranged for controlling the return flow of already compressed fresh air. The return flow duct opens into a groove of an intake manifold receptacle of the compressor, and at least one return flow opening adjoining the groove and facing an interior of the intake pipe is arranged on an intake manifold of the intake pipe.

Engine recovery system for engine system

An energy recovery system for an engine system is disclosed. The engine system includes an engine, an exhaust conduit configured to receive exhaust gases discharged from the engine, and a first turbocharger coupled to the exhaust conduit to receive exhaust gases from the engine and provides compressed air to the engine. The energy recovery system includes a bypass conduit, a second turbocharger, and an accumulator. The bypass conduit is coupled to the exhaust conduit upstream of the first turbocharger, and facilitates a portion of exhaust gases from the exhaust conduit to bypass the first turbocharger. The second turbocharger is coupled to the bypass conduit, and is driven by the portion of exhaust gases bypassing the first turbocharger to compress air received from an ambient to a first pressure. The accumulator is in fluid communication with the second turbocharger, and stores air received from the second turbocharger at the first pressure.
