Internal combustion engine system and a method of operating an internal combustion system
Provided are a method and an ICE system, including an internal combustion engine including a first and a second set of cylinders. A first and a second EGR valve control flow of exhaust gas from the cylinders to an EGR conduit. A controller controls the closing of the second EGR valve, thereby preventing flow of exhaust gas from the second set of cylinders to the EGR conduit. The second EGR valve is upstream of a turbine. The controller is configured to activate a fuel injector for late post injection of fuel into the second set of cylinders when the second EGR valve is closed, so that at least a part of the fuel that exits the second set of cylinders is uncombusted. An exhaust gas aftertreatment system receives and treats exhaust gas which is not recirculated in the EGR conduit, and includes an oxidation catalyst for combustion.
FOUR-STROKE INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE AND METHOD OF OPERATING FOUR-STROKE INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
Disclosed is a four-stroke direct injection engine comprising a camshaft, and exhaust valve, and a control system. The control system is configured to change the timing of the camshaft to advance a closing of the exhaust valve, control a first fuel injection step during a compression stroke of the piston, control a second fuel injection step during a power stroke of the piston, and control a third fuel injection step, after the second fuel injection step, during the power stroke of the piston.
METHOD, COMPUTING UNIT, AND COMPUTER PROGRAM FOR OPERATING AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A method (100) is proposed for operating an internal combustion engine (210), which comprises a lean-burn engine having compression-ignition, having a throttle valve (213) in an air path (212) upstream of the internal combustion engine (210) and an exhaust gas posttreatment system (202) downstream of the internal combustion engine (210), comprising a control of the internal combustion engine (210) according to a present load demand (130) using metering of an amount of fuel in dependence on the present load demand; and if a load demand (130) is absent in a heating operating mode, further comprising partially closing (140) the throttle valve (213) and defining a minimum value for the amount of fuel, which is greater than zero. Furthermore, a computing unit and a computer program for carrying out such a method (100) are proposed.
Method of controlling operation of an exhaust gas treatment apparatus
A method is disclosed for controlling an engine assembly comprising an internal combustion engine and an exhaust gas treatment apparatus. The aftertreatment assembly may require cleaning from time to time, and where this involves active thermal management of the aftertreatment assembly, the method involves performing the following steps: (a) imposing a first limit on engine speed; (b) awaiting an engine safe state; and (c) implementing a cleaning process comprising: (i) injecting fuel into the engine such that the fuel passes through the engine without combusting for the fuel to combust in the diesel oxidation catalyst so as to target an increase in exhaust gas temperature in the diesel oxidation catalyst; and (ii) removing the first limit on engine speed and targeting an engine speed set point, wherein the engine speed set point is at a higher speed than the first limit on engine speed.
CONTROL DEVICE FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
When an amount of particulate matter (PM) collected by a gasoline particulate filter (GPF) reaches a predetermined amount, a central processing unit (CPU) executes a regeneration process for regenerating the GPF. That is, the CPU stops supply of fuel to any one of cylinders #1 to #4, while increasing an amount of fuel supplied to remaining cylinders. When a temperature of a three-way catalyst becomes equal to or higher than a first temperature, the CPU increases an injection amount to lower a temperature of exhaust gas. When the temperature of the three-way catalyst becomes equal to or higher than the first temperature during the execution of the regeneration process, the CPU does not increase the injection amount.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR REACTIVATING A CATALYST
Methods and systems are provided for maintaining efficiency of a catalyst that is positioned in an exhaust system downstream of an internal combustion engine. In one example, the catalyst may be heated via supplying fuel to a cylinder that does not combust the fuel. The fuel may be oxidized at the catalyst via excess oxygen in the exhaust system.
CONTROL UNIT FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE SYSTEM
A control unit configured to control an electric turbocharger and an EGR valve. While an internal combustion engine is stopped, an oxygen-free period, which is a period during which oxygen surrounding an exhaust gas purifier used for an oxidation reaction runs out, is estimated based on a temperature of the exhaust gas purifier. Before entering the oxygen-free period, the EGR valve is opened and the electric turbocharger is driven. Air surrounding the exhaust gas purifier is replaced with fresh air. After replacement with the fresh air has been completed, the electric turbocharger is stopped.
Methods and system for controlling selective catalytic reductant catalyst of a gasoline engine
Systems and methods for controlling a gasoline urea selective catalytic reductant catalyst are described. In one example, an observer is provided that corrects an estimate of an amount of NH.sub.3 that is stored in a SCR. The amount of NH.sub.3 that is stored in the SCR is a basis for generating additional NH.sub.3 or ceasing generation of NH.sub.3.
Hybrid vehicle and control method therefor
A hybrid vehicle includes a multi-cylinder engine, an exhaust gas control apparatus including a catalyst for removing exhaust gas from the multi-cylinder engine, an electric motor, and a control device configured to execute catalyst temperature increase control for stopping fuel supply to at least one cylinder and making an air-fuel ratio in each of remaining cylinders rich in a case where a temperature increase of a catalyst is requested during a load operation of the multi-cylinder engine, execute control such that an electric motor supplements insufficient drive power due to the execution of the catalyst temperature increase control, and change the air-fuel ratio in at least one of the remaining cylinders to a lean side after a temperature of the exhaust gas control apparatus becomes equal to or higher than a determination threshold value during the execution of the catalyst temperature increase control.
Deceleration fuel cut-off enabled regeneration for gas particulate filter
Systems and methods provide deceleration fuel cutoff regeneration of a gas particulate filter. A powertrain system includes an exhaust system containing the gas particulate filter, which is configured to collect particulate matter from an exhaust gas stream of the powertrain system. A temperature sensor is configured to monitor a temperature of the gas particulate filter. A loading monitor, such as a sensor and/or a model, is configured to provide a loading input of particulate loading of the gas particulate filter. At least one controller is configured to: determine, by comparing the loading input to stored values, whether the gas particulate filter requires the regeneration; effect a warmup of the gas particulate filter when the determination shows the gas particulate filter requires the regeneration; and initiate the regeneration when a value received from the temperature sensor meets a minimum threshold level.
