A method of wire electric discharge machining (wEDM) a feature in a part includes using wEDM, cutting and detaching a slug from a portion of the part that is to be detached from the part to define the feature, and thereby defining a validation cut-out in the portion, and using wEDM, cutting and detaching the portion having the validation cut-out from the part and thereby defining the feature.

Method of manufacturing TiAl alloy impeller and TiAl alloy impeller

A method of manufacturing a TiAl alloy impeller includes a blank preparation step in which a blank of the TiAl alloy impeller is prepared, wherein the blank has a shaft portion and a plurality of blades, and a thickness of an outer edge of each of the blades of the blank is set so as to be larger than a thickness of an outer edge of a blade of the TiAl alloy impeller, and an additional work step in which an additional work is performed on each of the blades of the blank. In the additional work step, the additional work is performed on a first surface of a portion that includes at least the outer edge of each of the blades or the first surface and a second surface of the portion thereof.

Turbine blade maintenance method

A cleaning process (blasted-particles cleaning process) includes performing, a plural number of consecutive cycles, an ultrasonic cleaning treatment including immersing a turbine rotor blade in a water basin and conducting an ultrasonic wave into the water basin to clean the turbine rotor blade, and a pressurized-water cleaning treatment including spraying pressurized water into an internal cooling flow channel after the ultrasonic cleaning treatment is performed. The cleaning process is performed after a bonding coat layer removing process of removing a bonding coat layer (first coating layer) by chemical treatment, and a cleaning process of cleaning the turbine blade by blast treatment. Heat tinging process is then performed.

Cooled airfoil and method of making

In one embodiment, an airfoil includes an airfoil body portion, an airfoil tip portion disposed radially outward of the airfoil body portion, an airfoil root portion, and a plurality of radial cooling passages extending through the airfoil body portion from the root portion to the tip airfoil portion. The airfoil body portion and the airfoil tip portion are joined at a braze interface or a weld interface. The airfoil tip portion includes at least one manifold fluidly connecting at least one radial cooling passage to at least one other radial cooling passage.

Work station for electrochemically machining a workpiece, in particular a rotationally symmetrical workpiece, comprising a plurality of recesses, and method for producing an end contour of a recess

The invention relates to a work station for electrochemically machining a workpiece, having a number of recesses, including a base structure; a module which is fastened to the base structure and is configured to electrochemically machine the workpiece. A workpiece holder is fastened to the base structure. The workpiece holder is movable relative to the base structure along a feed axis which is parallel to the axis of rotation of the module. The module includes an electrode carrier arrangement, which is coupled to the module base body so the electrode carrier arrangement can be rotated together with the module base body about the axis of rotation of the module. The electrode carrier arrangement has a carrier frame and an electrode frame, where at least one electrode is detachably fastened to the electrode frame.

Method of machining gas turbine engine components

A method of forming a gas turbine engine component including an airfoil and at least one shroud includes the steps of (1) machining a gas path surface of the at least one shroud utilizing a non-electrochemical machining (ECM) process, and (2) then utilizing ECM on at least the airfoil.

Fixture for electro-chemical machining electrode

A fixture for an electro-chemical machining (ECM) electrode is provided. The fixture may include a clamp having a shape and size configured to selectively engage in at least a portion of a selected dovetail slot of a plurality of dovetail slots in a turbine wheel. An electrode mount positions an electrode head relative to the clamp such that the electrode head operatively engages a portion of the selected dovetail slot for electro-chemical machining of the portion. The fixture's electrode may act as a cathode for the ECM process. The fixture allows for ECM on site without removing a turbine wheel from a turbomachine.

Wrought Root Blade Manufacture Methods

A method for manufacturing a blade, the method includes casting a nickel alloy blade precursor having an airfoil and a root. The airfoil and the root are solution heat treating differently from each other. After the solution heat treating, the root is wrought processed.
