An abrasive coating system for a substrate of an airfoil in a turbine engine high pressure compressor, comprising a plurality of grit particles adapted to be placed on a top surface of the substrate; a matrix material bonded to the top surface; the matrix material partially surrounds the grit particles, the matrix material consisting of unalloyed chromium and unalloyed aluminum distributed throughout the matrix material, wherein the grit particles extend above the matrix material relative to the top surface; and a film of oxidant resistant coating applied over the plurality of grit particles and the matrix material.

HYBRID SUPERALLOY ARTICLE AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURE THEREOF

An article comprises a first portion comprising a first alloy and a second portion comprising a second alloy that is metallurgically bonded to the first portion to form a monolithic article. The metallurgical bonding involves the application of an electrical current across the bond line and results in a retention of a metallurgical structure of the first portion and of a metallurgical structure of the second portion immediately adjacent to a bond line. The first portion has a first dominant property and the second portion has a second dominant property. The first dominant property is different from the second dominant property. The first dominant property is selected to handle operating conditions at a first position of the article where the first portion is located and the second dominant property is selected to handle operating conditions at a second position of the article where the second portion is located.

A combustor which can be manufactured without requiring large-scale equipment and with a small number of processes and has a cooling fluid flow path sealed with high reliability. The combustor includes an inner cylinder made of metal constituting a combustion chamber, a cooling fluid flow path formed on an outer surface of the inner cylinder, and a sealing layer covering the outer surface of the inner cylinder to seal the cooling fluid flow path. The sealing layer is constituted by a bonded body of metal wires wound around the outer surface of the inner cylinder and metallurgically bonded to each other, and the sealing layer is bonded to the outer surface of the inner cylinder by metallurgical bonding.

Methods and assemblies for bonding airfoil components together

During a bonding process, a tip cap and an airfoil base are provided. The tip cap is arranged on the airfoil base. The tip cap is diffusion bonded to the airfoil base.

Hybrid diffusion-brazing process and hybrid diffusion-brazed article

A hybrid diffusion-brazing process and hybrid diffusion-brazed article are disclosed. The hybrid diffusion-brazing process includes providing a component having a temperature-tolerant region and a temperature-sensitive region, brazing a braze material to the temperature-tolerant region during a localized brazing cycle, then heating the component in a furnace during a diffusion cycle. The brazing and the heating diffusion-braze the braze material to the component, and the localized brazing cycle is performed independent of the diffusion cycle in the hybrid diffusion-brazing process. The hybrid diffusion-brazed article includes a component, and a braze material diffusion-brazed to the component with a filler material. The filler material has a melting temperature that is above a tolerance temperature of the component.

A rotating machine includes a hub portion, wherein the hub portion comprises a forward face and an aft face. The rotating machine further includes a cooling channel formed on either the forward face or the aft face and configured to direct cooling air to a location on the rotating machine, wherein the cooling channel extends from a radially inner location along the face to a radially outer location along the face, and wherein the cooling channel is configured as a recess formed into an outer surface of the face.

Manufacture of a hollow aerofoil

A method of manufacturing a hollow aerofoil component 100 for a gas turbine engine 10 comprises joining a first panel 200 to a second panel 300 using bonding, and hot forming the panels into shape. The bonding step and the hot forming step are performed in the same rig, thereby optimizing process time and component quality.

Hot gas path component having near wall cooling features

A method for providing micro-channels in a hot gas path component includes forming a first micro-channel in an exterior surface of a substrate of the hot gas path component. A second micro-channel is formed in the exterior surface of the hot gas path component such that it is separated from the first micro-channel by a surface gap having a first width. The method also includes disposing a braze sheet onto the exterior surface of the hot gas path component such that the braze sheet covers at least of portion of the first and second micro-channels, and heating the braze sheet to bond it to at least a portion of the exterior surface of the hot gas path component.
