An airfoil body may include a plurality of tubercles along a leading edge of the airfoil body and a plurality of crenulations along a trailing edge of the airfoil body, wherein at least one of a position, a size, and a shape of the plurality of tubercles and the plurality of crenulations varies in a non-periodic fashion. The non-periodic fashion may be according to a Fibonacci function and may mimic the configuration of a pectoral fin of a humpback whale. The tubercles and crenulations may be defined with respect to a pivot point. The spanwise profile, including the max chord trailing edge curvature, may closely follow divine spirals and related Fibonacci proportions. The spanwise chord thickness may vary in a nonlinear pattern. Related methods are also described.

There is disclosed a rotor for a turbocharger, wherein the rotor has a rotor shaft, a carrier sleeve, a bearing collar and an oil diverting ring. The oil diverting ring is arranged on the carrier sleeve and is spaced apart from the rotor shaft in the radial direction by means of the carrier sleeve.

Airfoil containment structure including a notched and tapered inner shell

A containment structure for surrounding a rotatable machine includes a double-walled inner shell having a forward end, an aft end, and a substantially cylindrical body extending therebetween. The inner shell includes an inner wall at least partially surrounding a bladed portion of the bladed rotor, and an outer portion that branches radially outward from the inner wall. The containment structure also includes a substantially cylindrical back sheet coupled to the outer portion and disposed radially outward of the inner wall.

System and method for machining a slot in an inner surface of a casing for a gas turbine engine

A milling device for machining a slot into an inner surface of a casing for a gas turbine engine. The milling device includes a frame assembly including multiple structural guides configured to engage structural features on the inner surface of the casing to maintain an axial position of the milling device relative to a longitudinal axis of the casing. The milling device also includes a milling cutter coupled to the frame assembly. The milling device is configured to be displaced in a circumferential direction relative to the longitudinal axis to machine the slot, via the milling cutter, along the inner surface of the casing in the circumferential direction.

Core component having toroidal structures

According to one embodiment of this disclosure a core includes a first end and a second end spaced generally opposite from the first end. The core further includes a stacking axis defined between the first end and second end and a first toroidal structure located between the first end and the second end. The first toroidal structure includes a first passage extending through the first toroidal structure in a first direction that is perpendicular to and passes through the stacking axis. The core also includes a second toroidal structure located between the first toroidal structure and the second end. The second toroidal structure includes a second passage extending through the second toroidal structure in a second direction. The first direction and the second direction are oriented along the stacking axis at a non-zero degree angle with respect to each other.

Carbon Face Seal

An apparatus has: a first member (120); a shaft (40; 50) rotatable relative to the first member about an axis; and a seal system (100). The seal system has a seal carrier (150) having: an axially-extending wall (156) having an inner diameter (ID) surface (160); and a radially-extending wall (154) having a first surface (158). A seal (102) is carried by the first member and has: an outer diameter (OD) surface (206); and a seal face (106). A seat (104) is carried by the shaft and has a seat face (108) in sliding sealing engagement with the seal face. One or more springs (132) bias the seal carrier relative to the first member so as to bias the seal face against the seat face.
