Sealing apparatus for sealing the ball joint of a kingpin
The invention relates to a sealing apparatus for sealing the ball joint of a kingpin comprising at least one holding ring and at least one seal ring, wherein the seal ring is provided at least partially within a groove of the holding ring, and wherein the groove is provided in a radially inwardly disposed region of the holding ring.
Anti pull-out collar for a ball joint
A ball joint includes an outer race having an exterior surface extending from an outer axial end to an inner axial end thereof and having an interior that has an opening proximate the outer axial end. The ball joint includes a ball with a stem extending therefrom. The ball is disposed in the interior area with the stem extending out of the opening. The ball joint has an anti pull-out collar disposed around the outer race and located entirely beyond a center point of the ball towards the outer axial end of the outer race. The anti pull-out collar has a radial thickness configured to prevent radial expansion of the outer race.
Ball socket assembly, dust boot therefor and method of construction thereof
A ball socket assembly, dust boot assembly therefor, and method of construction thereof are provided. The ball socket assembly includes a housing with an inner bore extending along a central axis. A bearing is disposed in the inner bore. A ball portion of a ball stud is disposed in sliding engagement with the bearing and a shank portion extends outwardly from the housing. A dust boot assembly having a tubular wall extends along the central axis between a distal end disposed about the shank portion and a proximal end in sealed engagement with the housing. The dust boot proximal end has an annular flange extending radially outwardly from the central axis. The annular flange has a cylindrical outer surface, a lower surface and an upper shoulder. An annular metal ring is disposed about and substantially encapsulates the cylindrical outer surface, lower surface and upper shoulder of the annular flange.
SPHERICAL PLAIN BEARING WITH ANGULAR MISALIGNMENT RESTRAINT SYSTEM, AND ANGULAR MISALIGNMENT RESTRAIN SYSTEM
A spherical plain bearing includes an outer ring having a concave interior spherical surface, and an inner member having a convex exterior spherical surface. The inner member is pivotally disposed in the outer ring such that the inner member and the outer ring are angularly misalignable relative to one another. The spherical plain bearing includes an angular misalignment restraint system which includes an inner member restraint feature on the inner member and an outer ring restraint feature on the outer member. The first and second portions are spaced apart when the inner member and the outer ring are angularly misaligned relative to one another by less than a predetermined maximum angle θ, and come into abutment when the inner member and the outer ring are angularly misaligned relative to one another by angle θ. The abutment prevents any further relative angular misalignment of the inner member and the outer ring.
Ball joint for a two-point link and two-point-link with such ball joint
A ball joint for a chassis component in the form of a two-point linkage. The ball joint includes a housing and a ball stud fitted and able to be deflected in the housing, as well as a sealing element arranged between the housing and the ball stud, which surrounds the ball stud all round. Deflection movement of the ball stud, relative to the housing, is restricted at least in some areas by the sealing element. The sealing element is attached to the housing by an interlocked connection. The sealing element of the ball joint is attached to the housing by a snap-on connection. A two-point linkage having such a ball joint, and the two-point linkage is a steering rod or a track rod.
Boot For A Socket Assembly
The improved dust boot includes a dust boot body which is made as one integral piece of an elastomeric material and extends from a first end portion to a second end portion. The second end portion of the dust boot body includes a first sealing portion and a second sealing portion which is spaced from the first sealing portion. The first sealing portion includes a plurality of ribs that are spaced circumferentially from one another by a plurality of grooves and includes a plurality of relief valves that are located in the grooves and extend away from the first end portion for allowing a lubricant to pass the first sealing portion in one direction and for restricting the passage of contaminants past the sealing portion in an opposite direction.
Seal member of ball joint
Provided is a seal member or a ball joint capable of satisfactorily maintaining sealing performance between a ball portion of a ball shank and a ball receiving portion of a holder for a long time even when the ball shank is used under a condition that the ball shank is pivoted repeatedly with respect to the holder at a large pivot angle and at high speed. The seal member includes: a base portion having an annular ring shape and is to be fixed to the holder; a retaining portion formed on an inner peripheral side of the base portion integrally with the base portion and is recessed into a conical shape toward the holder; and a lip portion formed along an inner peripheral edge of the retaining portion so as to be held in sliding contact with a spherical surface of the ball portion of the ball shank.
DRY RUNNING BALL JOINT MECHANICAL SEAL
A dry running mechanical ball joint seal includes a spherical element penetrated by a central passage and suspended between support rings that are pressed by springs against the spherical element and form a sliding dry seal therewith. A lip seal is located between the support rings and includes wipers pressed radially inward by a lip seal spring to form an additional seal with the spherical element. In embodiments directed to piping systems, a fluid is able to flow through the central passage. Other embodiments include a sliding rod directed through the central passage and sealed to the spherical element by a rod support within the central passage and also by at least one rod lip seal having a wiper pressed by a spring against the rod. The rod support can include a compressible packing material and/or a linear ball bearing sealed to the spherical element within the central passage.
Steerable axle
A steerable axle includes a housing defining a ball seat therein, a ball member received within the ball seat and defining a cutout portion to receive a portion of a ball bearing therein, an interstitial space defined by a surface of the ball seat and a surface of the ball member, and a ball bearing disposed within the interstitial space and received into the cutout portion of the ball member. The ball bearing moves within the interstitial space when the ball member rotates along the x or y axis, but is restricted from movement along the z axis. Restriction of movement of the ball bearing along the z axis results in a corresponding restriction of movement of the ball member along the z axis.
