Noise reducing brake pads

A brake pad for a motor vehicle is provided. The brake pad includes a body having an upper edge and a lower edge. The upper edge is configured for positioning relative to an outer diameter of a rotor. The brake pad also includes a friction surface extending between the upper edge and the lower edge for engaging the rotor. The brake pad further includes a relieved portion located along a section of the upper edge. The relieved portion is configured to reduce squeal noise caused by tangential modes of the rotor, during engagement of the brake pad with the rotor, by minimizing contact between the friction surface of the brake pad and the outer diameter of the rotor at an area of the rotor having a potential for high modal displacement in a tangential direction.

The application relates to a brake pad (2) for a disk brake system and to a disk brake system. The proposed brake pad (2) comprises a back plate (5) having a front side (4) for facing a brake disk (1) of the disk brake system and a friction layer (3) arranged on the front side (4) of the back plate (5) for contacting a friction surface of the brake disk (1). The back plate (5) comprises a guiding protrusion (9) configured to be slidably received within a guiding recess (14) of a carrier (13) of the disk brake system. The guiding protrusion (9) of the back plate (5) comprises a bulging portion (10). The bulging portion (10) is configured to extend toward a guiding surface (15) of the guiding recess (14) of the carrier (13) to reduce a gap width between the guiding protrusion (9) of the back plate (5) in the region of the bulging portion (10) and an adjacent part of the disk brake system.

VEHICLE DISC BRAKE

The present invention is a vehicle disc brake for which incorrect installation of a friction pad can be prevented with a simple structure. The disc brake is provided with incorrect installation-preventing parts with which, if a friction pad (4) is installed with an incorrect installation orientation when a pair of tabs (10, 11) provided on the disc entry-side and disc exit-side of the back plate (4d) of a friction pad (4) is installed into pad guide grooves (9) formed on a caliper body (3), the tabs bump into the caliper body (3) and prevent the incorrect installation. The incorrect installation-preventing parts are formed from caliper-side recesses (9d, 9e), which are formed in the pad guide grooves (9) towards the center of the caliper body, and tab-side protrusions (10a, 11a), which have shapes that correspond to the caliper-side recesses (9d, 9e).

A disk brake includes a brake disk, a brake caliper, which fits over the brake disk, a brake support, a brake pad and an application device, which presses the brake pad against the brake disk when braking, wherein the brake pad rests in a U-shaped well and the two legs of the “U” serve to support the brake pad in the circumferential direction of the brake disk and the “base” of the “U” serves to support the brake pad radially toward the inside. The distance between the two legs of the “U” is shorter at the radially outer ends thereof than the distance at the radially inner ends thereof.

A brake pad for a disc brake with decreased wear characteristics is provided. The brake pad is configured with the distribution of brake pad friction material weighted toward the radially outer region of the brake pad, with the lateral sides of the pad material being generally aligned with radial lines originating at the rotation axis of the brake disc of the disc brake. The brake pad friction material distribution results in decreased brake application pressure between the brake pad and the brake disc while obtaining the same braking force provided by a comparable generally rectangular brake pad, resulting in lower brake pad wear at the same braking force levels.

Disc brake pad retention system and mounting method

An apparatus and method are provided for suppressing undesired brake pad motion during brake application, and for installing and removing brake pads utilizing the inventive arrangements. One embodiment of the invention includes brake pads and a carrier mount having complementary surface features that retain the brake pad when the brake pad is in its installed position and a brake pad biasing structure that biases the brake pad in the radially outward direction to bias contact faces of the mount horn and the brake pad against one another to suppress brake pad kick and vibration and related wear and component fatigue.
