Each recess extends radially beyond the connection seat. Each side wall portion is joined to the adjoining bottom wall portion by a cylindrical bottom arch avoiding edges. Each side wall portion is joined to the adjoining inner end wall portion by a cylindrical end arch avoiding edges. Each first attachment portion surface is coplanar to the first braking surface except for the wear of the first braking surface.

Parking Brake Apparatus for a Vehicle and Method Therefor

A parking brake apparatus is provided for a vehicle including a vehicle drive train that extends between a vehicle propulsion engine and a vehicle wheel. The parking brake apparatus comprises a wheel drum located away from the vehicle wheel and fixedly attached to a drivetrain shaft that extends along a portion of the vehicle drive train between the vehicle propulsion engine and the vehicle wheel. The parking brake apparatus also comprises activatable drum brake components disposed in an interior chamber of the wheel drum. When activated, the drum brake components apply a clamping force to the wheel drum to prevent the wheel drum and the drivetrain shaft fixedly attached thereto from rotating and thereby preventing the vehicle wheel from rotating to provide the vehicle with a parking brake functionality.

Aluminum clutch components with ferrous surface

Components for an automatic motor vehicle transmission including a band brake drum, a clutch housing or hub having a seal surface or a clutch housing or hub utilized in a friction clutch assembly having a spline set. All of these components are fabricated of aluminum and the outer surface of the band brake drum, the housing or hub sealing surface and the area of the spline set includes a thin coating of a thermally sprayed steel material. The thermally sprayed steel material may be a low carbon steel such as SAE 1008 or 1010, a similar alloy, iron or other metal. The resulting components thus exhibit the weight saving of aluminum while providing excellent service life due to the enhanced strength and wear resistance provided by the thermally sprayed steel coating.
