Caliper actuated wheel end sphere brakes
A braking system is presented that comprises a brake sphere rotor that is mounted to the wheel hub of an axle. The braking system incorporates a caliper arm assembly that comprises at least one caliper arm. Each caliper arm further comprises hemispherical friction material located between the caliper arm and the brake sphere rotor.
CAMSHAFT ROTATION SENSOR MOUNTING ARRANGEMENT
A sensor mounting arrangement for a drum brake assembly of a heavy-duty vehicle comprising a sensor assembly mounted on a cam tube of the drum brake assembly. The cam tube is formed with an opening. The sensor assembly includes a detector that is at least partially disposed in or adjacent to the opening of the cam tube and a target that is disposed about an outer surface of a camshaft of the drum brake assembly.
Coupling system and method of use thereof
A coupling system having an inner tube, a collar, a circular gasket concentrically disposed between the inner tube and the collar; a pair of CAM levers structurally engageable with the collar, and a handle connecting the pair of CAM levers such that a user can single-handedly move the handle between the locked position and the unlocked position.
S-CAM BRAKE
An S-cam brake including a brake chamber to which compressed air is supplied; a slack adjuster rotatably connecting to the brake chamber; an S-cam unit having an S-cam connecting to and rotating around the slack adjuster; and a drum having a lining generating braking force with widening according to rotation of the S-cam is provided, wherein the brake chamber includes an upper housing having an air supply port through which compressed air is introduced; a lower housing coupled to the upper housing to form an internal space; a diaphragm having edges fixed to the upper housing and the lower housing and deformed by compressed air; a piston disposed to contact the diaphragm and move linearly; a piston push rod extending from the piston and having one end connected to the slack adjuster; and a spring having one end supported by the piston and the other end supported by the lower housing, wherein a thickness of the upper housing is greater than a thickness of the lower housing.
SLACK ADJUSTER ASSEMBLY FOR HEAVY-DUTY VEHICLES
A slack adjuster assembly for heavy-duty vehicles, the slack adjuster assembly comprising a slack adjuster and an inboard sealing assembly. The slack adjuster is disposed about and has an internal spline for receiving an external spline of an inboard end of a camshaft of a camshaft assembly of the heavy-duty vehicle. The internal spline has a radial clearance from the external spline. The inboard sealing assembly includes mechanical components that cooperate with the radial clearance to increase grease flow and distribution. The inboard sealing assembly is disposed over the inboard end of the camshaft and engages an inboard side of the slack adjuster to form a 360-degree seal about the inboard side.
Splined drum and electric motor engagement assembly
The rotor of an electric motor unit has a web portion partially enclosing the remainder of the unit and terminating in a circumferentially extending rim. The brake drum defines an engagement surface for drum brake linings, and has an outboard end defining a flange securable to the wheel hub. The brake drum also includes an open inboard end, partly covered over by a dust guard, and a circumferential wall extending between the outboard and inboard ends and surrounding the engagement surface. By way of keys and slots or recesses, a reinforcing ring interlocks the circumferentially extending rim of the web portion and the circumferential brake drum wall. The reinforcing ring is secured to the circumferentially extending rim and to the wall of the brake drum at a location disposed axially between the rim of the web portion and the brake drum lining engagement surface.
Brake
A brake includes a brake shoe moveable between an engaged position and a disengaged position and defining an axis of rotation of an associated brake drum. The brake includes an actuation shaft rotatable about a shaft axis and an actuation device for transferring rotational movement of the actuation shaft into movement of the brake shoe from the disengaged position to the engaged position. The axis of rotation is non-parallel to the shaft axis.
Electric Actuator for S-Cam Brake
A drum brake assembly includes a brake spider having a central aperture configured to receive an axle extending therethrough and first and second brake shoes. Each of the first and second brakes shoes has a first end pivotally coupled to the brake spider. First and second cam followers are disposed at corresponding second ends of the first and second brake shoes. A camshaft has a shaft extending through a camshaft aperture in the brake spider and disposed along a rotational axis and a cam disposed at a first end of the shaft and in engagement with the first and second cam followers. An electric motor has an output shaft coupled to the camshaft. A controller is configured to drive the electric motor to cause rotation of the camshaft and move the first and second brake shoes between positions of engagement and disengagement with an associated braking surface.
Parking brake and operating method
The invention relates to a parking brake for a motor vehicle, including a pivotable locking mechanism for applying a retaining force to a parking brake gear. The locking mechanism can lock into the parking brake gear by means of an axially movable first actuation unit. According to the invention, the first actuation unit is designed as a spring-loaded cam follower. The invention also relates to an operating method for locking and unlocking the parking brake.
BRAKE DEVICE
A brake device including a brake unit; a contact device engageable by the brake unit and movable relative to the brake unit, wherein the brake unit includes at least one activation device and at least one brake member that includes a transmission member and a brake shoe that is pivotably supported in a pivot bearing at an end of the at least one brake member, wherein the at least one activation device engages the transmission member to move the at least one brake member towards the contact device until the brake shoe contacts the contact device in an activation position of the at least one brake member and the brake shoe, wherein the pivot bearing is arranged at the at least one brake member so that the pivot bearing is movable towards the contact device together with the transmission member.
