A method for producing a fibrous web includes: (a) a fibrous ply containing polylactide fibers and, as necessary, other fibers are laid on a substrate in a random fiber arrangement, (b) initially a loose, pre-compressed nonwoven is created by applying a first pressure to the fibrous ply, the tear resistance of which nonwoven permits free bridging of a span between 0.1 m and 1 m before the nonwoven tears, (c) the pre-compressed nonwoven is then passed through the calender gap, wherein a pattern consisting of point or linear pressure zones is formed in the gap, with the fibers in the pressure zones being exposed to a second pressure, which is higher than the first pressure, and to a temperature such that the fibers fuse.

Thermoplastic polymeric foam pipe insulation

An article with at least two extruded thermoplastic polymer foam pieces that fit together to form a length of foam having a generally annular cross section, each piece having a concave surface such that the concave surfaces adjoin to form an internal edge defining a hole within the generally annular cross section; wherein each piece has a density less than 36 kilograms per cubic meter, a product of density times average cell size that is less than 17 millimeters*kilogram per cubic meter, and a thermal conductivity of 35 milliwatts per meter*Kelvin or less.

HEAT PROTECTIVE SLEEVE

A heat protective sleeve includes a body being cylindrical extending along a longitudinal direction and comprising a triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMS) structure, an open cell foam structure, or a lattice structure. A strip extends along the longitudinal direction of the body. The strip is a same material as the TPMS structure, the open cell foam structure, or the lattice structure. The material of the strip is solid and without holes through it. An endcap removably couples to the body. In some examples, the body has fastening threads and the endcap has mating threads. The mating threads of the endcap are configured to engage with the fastening threads of the body to releasably couple the endcap to the body.

Field Joint Arrangement for a Pipeline and Protecting Method Thereof

A method protects a field joint of a pipeline, where chamfered edges of thermally-insulating parent coatings on conjoined pipe lengths are in mutual opposition about a longitudinally-extending gap. The method includes manufacturing an hourglass-shaped inner layer around the pipe lengths, which layer may be moulded. The inner layer extends longitudinally along the gap between the chamfered edges and at least partially overlies the chamfered edges. A thermally-insulating solid insert is assembled from two or more parts to lie in the gap surrounding the inner layer, and pressure is applied radially inwardly from the insert to the inner layer. An outer layer of molten material is manufactured around the insert to form a watertight barrier and to form one or more melted interfaces with the inner layer. Corresponding field joint arrangements are also disclosed.
