A gas ring is attached to an upper portion of a chamber side portion as a side wall of a chamber. The gas ring is formed by overlapping an upper ring and a lower ring. A gap between the upper ring and the lower ring provides a flow path for processing gas. A labyrinthine resisting unit is formed in the flow path. The mass of the lower ring having an inner wall surface is increased to increase heat capacity. The lower ring is attached to the chamber side portion to be in surface contact with the chamber side portion, so that thermal conductivity from the lower ring to the chamber side portion has a large value, and the amount of heat accumulated in the lower ring is reduced. An increase in temperature of the lower ring at thermal processing is thereby suppressed to prevent discoloration of the gas ring.

A transport device advances the strand in a direction of transport through the annealing furnace during operation of the annealing furnace. The annealing furnace also includes a first cooling device for cooling the outer surface of the strand with a gas guide in the direction of transport behind the first heater, wherein the gas guide is arranged in such a manner that a gas flows along the outer surface of the strand during operation of the annealing furnace for cooling the strand.

High temperature vacuum furnace hot zone with improved thermal efficiency

This invention provides a high temperature vacuum furnace including a hot zone designed for improved energy efficiency resulting in lower electrical power usage, lower manufacturing costs and easier replacement of components for lower maintenance costs. The hot zone has an outer supporting wall and an inner insulating wall surrounded by a new HEFVAC high density, high strength, low conductivity and low moisture-sensitive graphite insulation board ring connected in a unique z-shaped arrangement that contains radiant energy within the hot zone during the heat treating cycle. The hot zone further includes heating elements made of high quality graphite for increased thermal efficiency of the furnace. Also included in the hot zone are lower mass, tapered graphite nozzles that can sustain high pressure gas flow and decrease conductive heat losses from the nozzles to the hot zone chamber outer supporting wall during the heat treating cycle.

The first section (13) is separated from the second section (14) in each half-cooler (11, 12) by a respective internal adjustment device (7, 8), making it possible to change the gas flow/pressure parameter so that the value of said gas flow/pressure parameter is different in the first section (13) from the value of said parameter in the second section (14).
