A method for calibrating a camera of a mobile device for detecting an analyte in a sample. An image of an object is captured using the camera with an illumination source turned on. A first area is determined in the image which is affected by direct reflection of light originating from the illumination source and reflected by the object. A second area which does not substantially overlap with the first area is determined as a target area of a test strip. Also disclosed is a detection in which a sample is applied to a test strip and a visual indication is provided to position the test strip relative to the camera to thereby locate the test field of the strip in the target area. An image of the test field is captured using the camera while the illumination source is turned on, and analyte concentration is determined from the image.

ANALYTICAL TEST DEVICE

An analytical test device (12) includes one or more light emitters (13) configured to emit light within a first range of wavelengths (.sub.a). The analytical test device (12) also includes one or more first photodetectors (14), each first photodetector (14) being sensitive to a second range of wavelengths (.sub.b) around a first wavelength. The analytical test device (12) also includes one or more second photodetectors (15), each second photodetector (15) being sensitive to a third range of wavelengths (.sub.c) around a second wavelength, the second wavelength being different to the first wavelength. The analytical test device (12) also includes a correction module (16) configured to receive signals (19, 20) from the first and second photodetectors (14, 15) and to generate a corrected signal (21) based on a weighted difference of the signals (19, 20) from the first and second photodetectors (14, 15). The analytical test device (12) is configured such that light from the light emitters (13) reaches the first and second photodetectors (14, 15) via an optical path which includes a sample receiving portion (7).

The invention concerns a test system for carrying out blood sugar tests with a diagnostic tape cassette which comprises a windable analytical test tape for detecting an analyte and a cassette housing accommodating the test tape, and a test device which has a device housing for inserting and removing the tape cassette and a measuring unit for detecting the analyte on the test tape. According to the invention it is proposed that the tape cassette can be detachably fastened by positioning elements on a platform mounted in the device housing and that the measuring unit is rigidly attached on the platform or can be engaged therewith.
