A digital pathology apparatus includes a housing with a rail system that allows the housing to slide off of the apparatus to expose the internal elements of the apparatus for easy maintenance. The housing includes a latch and sensor system that securely latches the housing in the closed position and senses when the housing is opened so that the moving parts of the apparatus can be safely stopped to avoid potential injury. The housing also includes electromagnetic shielding on a minimal portion of its interior surface to reduce electromagnetic radiation emanating from the apparatus. The digital pathology apparatus also includes a speakerless audio system that engages with a portion of the interior surface of the housing that is not covered with electromagnetic shielding. The speakerless audio system provides an audio user interface while maintaining a contiguous surface on the housing to cover the digital pathology apparatus.

ROBOTIC SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PRECISE ORGAN EXCISION TECHNOLOGY

Methods and systems for automating surgical procedures in model organisms. The system includes a user input panel, a trained computer vision system, a server, and articulated robotic arm. The system may further include an analytical scale, an anesthesia chamber, a tube labeling system, a tissue freezing system, and a biohazard waste disposal system. The computer vision system communicates with the robotic arm to coordinate tissue collections and common research procedures such as injections via recognition models related to detection, identification, localization, and classification. The central server provides rapid synchronization of data between the local machine and a cloud account system for real-time data analytics. The anesthesia chamber provides standardized administration of anesthesia, the sample labeling system provides 2D barcoded labels according to user input, and the tissue freezing and waste disposal systems enable storage of samples and removal of carcasses following tissue collection, fully automating the necropsy.

AUTOMATED SYSTEM FOR STORING, RETRIEVING AND MANAGING SAMPLES
20170370955 · 2017-12-28 ·

An automated storage system for storing large quantities of samples in trays includes a storage compartment, a tray shuttle compartment abutting the storage compartment on one side and a plurality of independent modules on the other side. The modules perform processing of samples that are retrieved from the storage compartment by a tray shuttle, including extraction of selected samples from retrieved source trays and transfer of the selected samples into a separate, destination tray that can be further processed or removed from the system for use. The independent operation of the modules permits handling and processing to be performed simultaneously by different modules while the tray shuttle accesses additional samples within the storage compartment. In one embodiment, a vertical carousel is used to vertically align a desired tray with the tray shuttle, while the tray shuttle operates within a horizontal plane.
