The one or more light-absorption detectors may receive light from the hollow cavity through one or more ports.
Seamless Integrating Cavity of Monolithic Fumed Silica
A seamless fumed silica monolithic integrating cavity device tailored to analyzing a flowed sample. The device is configured to facilitate optical measurements taken from a sample flowed through a cavity of the device. The cavity is defined by a fumed silica monolith with the added feature of a fused quartz lining on the surface of the monolith. This provides an intermediate surface that allows for cleaning and reuse of the highly effective diffuse light scattering fumed silica monolith. The lining may be placed under pressure or vacuum to structurally enhance mechanical integrity of the underlying monolith. Thus, continued or reliably repeated use of the device may be appreciated as well as use in more industrial environments that are prone to vibration. Additionally, while well suited for flow-based sample analysis, a valve of the cavity may be utilized for holding a sample in a temporarily static state for measurement.
DUVF-MSI Biophotonic Analyzer Device and Methods for Detecting Pathogens on Plants and Measuring Stress Response
Methods of deep ultraviolet fluorescence (DUVF) and multi spectral imaging (MSI) detection are disclosed herein for the detection and identification of pathogens on plants. DUV light and visible or near-infrared light are used to illuminate plants or plant leaves such that the light intensity reflected or emitted by the plant or plant leaves can be used to identify the type of pathogen and measure the amount of pathogen on the plant or plant leaves and, additionally, be used to measure the plant's stress response to such pathogen. Also provided herein is a biophotonic analyzer device that uses both DUVF and MSI detection for the monitoring and surveillance of plant health and for the identification and enumeration of pathogens on plants or plant leaves.

Integrating Cavity of Monolithic Fumed Silica
A fumed silica monolithic integrating cavity device. The device is configured to facilitate optical measurements taken from a sample positioned within a cavity of the device. The cavity is defined by a fumed silica monolith with the added feature of a fused quartz lining on the surface of the monolith. This provides an intermediate surface that allows for cleaning and reuse of the highly effective diffuse light scattering fumed silica monolith. Furthermore, the lining may be placed under pressure or vacuum to structurally enhance mechanical integrity of the underlying monolith. Thus, continued or reliably repeated use of the device may be appreciated as well as use in more industrial environments that are prone to vibration.
Apparatus for analysing a liquid sample comprising particles
An apparatus for analysing a liquid sample comprising particles, comprises: a first chamber (12) and a second chamber (14), and an optical path between the first chamber (12) and the second chamber (14), wherein: the first chamber (12) is a sample chamber comprising: a sample space for receiving the sample; a light input (24) for input of light into the first chamber (12) for interaction with the sample; and an exit aperture (26) arranged for scattered and/or reflected light to pass from the first chamber via the optical path to the second chamber (14); the second chamber (14) is a detection chamber comprising: an input aperture (28) for receiving light from the optical path; and a detector (25) for detecting, or a detector aperture for receiving, light to be detected; wherein the first chamber (12) and the second chamber (14) provide at least one light integrating volume, and wherein the first chamber (12) is configured such that in operation the liquid sample is present in the first chamber (12) and isolated from the second chamber (14).
Spectrophotometer system and enhanced optical characterization of biological samples using same
Spectrophotometer system configured to characterize and/or measure spectrally (wavelength)-dependent properties of material components (such as molecular, viral, and/or bacterial analytes) associated with or of an object prior to the time when optical fingerprints of such material components start to degrade, and associated methods. System can be enhanced by a capability of selecting specific wavelengths of operation for such system to optimize cost-efficiency of the system.
OPTICAL DETECTOR MODULE, MEASUREMENT SYSTEM AND METHOD OF DETECTING PRESENCE OF A SUBSTANCE IN A TEST MATERIAL
Embodiments of the invention comprise apparatus and methods for detecting the presence of a substance in a test material using a plurality of wavelength-specific couplers (e.g. tilted fibre gratings) which provide a spatially distributed multi-node all-optical measurement system. Each node of the measurement system can comprise an optical module that is sensitive to the intensity of a limited band of wavelengths. The node is thus capable of detecting the presence of an absorption peak in a spectrum without having to obtain the full spectrum. By providing a plurality of optical modules that are sensitive to different wavelengths, the spectral signature of different substances may be monitored without having to measure full spectra. The measurement system may be particularly useful in a process control environment where it is desirable to take measurements of one or more substances in different locations.
