Correcting for eccentricity of acoustic sensors in wells and pipes
A device and method used to correct beamforming of an acoustic phased array in cases of eccentricity of the acoustic device in a tubular. A processor calculates the eccentricity from multiple scan lines and create a geometric model of a well or pipe relative to the device. The processor may correct each scan line's focus and/or angle of incidence at a surface of the well or pipe based on the observed eccentricity.
Downhole Activation of Seismic Tools
A well tool for sensing seismic activity at a downhole location has an anchoring mechanism for mechanically coupling the tool to a formation by contact engagement with a wall of a subterranean cavity in which the well tool is located. The anchoring mechanism is deployable by a pressure-triggered hydraulic actuator incorporated in the tool. The actuator is configured for pressure-triggered activation and for hydraulic actuation by agency of borehole fluids (e.g., drilling mud). The actuator can provide a persistent contacting force urging the anchoring mechanism into contact with the cavity wall, to promote firm coupling with the formation for seismic sensoring purposes.
FIT FOR PURPOSE MEASUREMENT SYSTEM FOR DRILL HOLE LOGGING
A drill hole logging system (5) incorporates a computing system (58) at the surface and a deployment mechanism (40) for conveying a logging tool (10) configured to measure one or more geophysical parameters into a drill hole (20). A transmission means (57) communicates commands and data representing the geophysical parameters between the surface computing system and the logging tool. A borehole caliper (300) is employed to profile the inside of the borehole.

Hybrid sensing apparatus and method
A hybrid sensing apparatus for collecting data inside a well, the apparatus including an optical cable that acquires a first set of data; and an array of discrete probes connected to each other with an electrical cable. The discrete probes are configured to acquire a second set of data. The apparatus further includes an attachment system attached to the discrete probes and configured to hold the optical cable. The attachment system is configured to expose the optical cable to directly contact the well.

The method also includes incorporating the at least one selected type of sensor onto the at least one selected type of roller to provide at least one sensor roller, and mounting the at least one sensor roller into a compressible mounting assembly provided in the tool body to provide the logging module.
LWD resistivity imaging tool with adjustable sensor pads
A logging while drilling tool for measuring a geological formation surrounding a wellbore includes a tool body having one or more sensor pads. Each sensor pad is coupled to the tool body by an extendable coupling that is operable to adjust the radial position of the sensor pad by extending away from or retracting toward the tool body. One or more sensors are mounted to each sensor pads and the sensors are operable to obtain a measurement a property of the formation. The tool also includes a downhole control unit having a transmitter and receiver. The downhole control unit is operable to receive the measurement and transmit the measurement to a surface controller, wherein the transmitted measurement indicates a measurement resolution.

An internal structure detection system includes: two kinds of sensors with different operating principles for receiving reflected waves of vibration applied to an inspection target in an investigation area; and a processing apparatus that detects an internal structure of the inspection target by using the sensor data received by the two kinds of sensors. The two kinds of sensors are deployed in the investigation area with different densities, in a distributed manner.
