An image processing apparatus includes a beam corrector which corrects a gray level of each pixel in image data so as to reduce a density difference due to a misalignment in beam position of laser beams of a multibeam array. The beam corrector includes a calculator which detects an edge of an object between a pixel and adjacent pixels of the pixel in the image data and calculates an edge intensity of the edge. The calculator calculates a corrected gray level of the pixel from the calculated edge intensity and a correction value corresponding to a deviation in beam position of the laser beams emitted according to a gray level of the pixel.

A laser scanning unit includes a rotary polygon mirror, a shaft support portion, a plurality of light application portions, and a plurality of scanning lenses. The plurality of light application portions are configured to cause light beams to be incident at a plurality of incidence positions different in an axial direction parallel to the rotary shaft on the rotary polygon mirror. In the laser scanning unit, the following relationship is satisfied: when, of the plurality of light beams, a specific light beam incident at the incidence position that is most distant from the shaft support portion on the rotary polygon mirror passes through an optical axis of the corresponding scanning lens, an angle between the specific light beam incident on the rotary polygon mirror and the optical axis of the scanning lens is closest to a reference angle defined in advance as a usage condition of the scanning lens.

An exposure head includes a light emitting board group, a first lens array, and a second lens array. The light emitting board group disposes a plurality of light emitting boards each including a plurality of light emitting elements disposed side by side in a second direction intersecting with the first direction. The plurality of light emitting boards are disposed along the second direction and alternately in the first direction. The light emitting board group includes a first light emitting board group and a second light emitting board group. The first lens array condenses light emitted from the plurality of light emitting elements disposed on the first light emitting board group onto the surface of the image bearing member. The second lens array condenses light emitted from the plurality of light emitting elements disposed on the second light emitting board group onto the surface of the image bearing member.

Determining settings for arrays of printing components

A method of controlling a print engine, the method comprising: printing a first test image including a number of scans of printing components at a first setting of the array of printing components; printing at least a second test image by a number of scans of the printing components at a modified setting of the array of printing components, the modified setting being different from the first setting, wherein the modified setting provides a modified setting for each one of the printing components which is varied according to the position of the respective printing component in the array; optically scanning the printed test images and determining the distinctiveness of a scan band within the printed test images for each one of the test images; and deriving an optimum setting of the array of printing components from a comparison of the determined distinctiveness.

Image forming apparatus and exposure apparatus for forming image using rod lens array

An exposure apparatus comprises an exposure head, a memory and at least one processor. The exposure head includes light-emitting elements, and a rod lens array. A photosensitive body is rotationally driven. The light-emitting elements are arranged in a direction intersecting a direction of rotation of the photosensitive body. The rod lens array forms an image of light on the photosensitive body. The light is outputted from any of the light-emitting elements based on image data, passes through the rod lens array and reaches the photosensitive body. The memory stores correction data for correcting a streak image. The at least one processor corrects the image data based on the correction data read out from the memory.
