A method for authenticating a user using biometrics and digitized handwritten signature is provided. A biometric stylus performs fingerprint recognition on the user who uses the biometric stylus to create a handwriting pattern on a handwriting input device, and transmits encrypted identification data to the handwriting input device when the fingerprint recognition is successful. The handwriting input device transmits the encrypted identification data and the handwriting pattern to a verification server. The verification server verifies the handwriting pattern, and decrypts the encrypted identification data for verifying an identity of the user when the handwriting pattern is successfully verified.

One embodiment includes receiving a facial image and a data identifier of a person. This embodiment further includes processing the facial image of the person in view of facial image data of the person to determine whether the received facial image matches the retrieved facial image data. The facial image data may be retrieved based on the data identifier of the person, facial landmark data extracted from the facial image, or otherwise. A pattern recognition locking system and method is operable to lock and unlock an object through a sequence of knocks, rotations, and ambient vibrations that are measured by an accelerometer as acceleration, and a gyroscope as orientation. The sequence and intensity of vibrations and intensity are processed by a microcontroller that utilizes a pattern recognition algorithm to: recognize the intensity and sequence of acceleration and orientation; identify the most intense motion from the degrees of freedom; and, after identifying a sequence of the most intense motions for respective degree of freedom, the microcontroller transmits a signal to lock mechanism to lock or unlock an object if sequence of degrees of motion match a stored passcode. A sleep module powers off the system when no motion or vibrations detected. A new sequence of ambient vibrations and motion are created through a learning module. A reset switch reprograms the sequence of motions.

An identification document may be associated with the person. The method may include sensing an identification characteristic of the person in the access region based at least in part on the identification document using an identification sensing device; transmitting the identification characteristic using the identification sensing device to a biometric sensing device; and sensing a biometric characteristic of the person using the biometric sensing device within the access region in response to receipt of the identification characteristic to identify the person.
