An alarm system includes a monitoring component configured to detect a danger in a dwelling, and an alert component that includes an array of vibration devices placed throughout the dwelling. Each of the array of vibration devices are configured to provide a tactile alert in response to a detection of the danger in the dwelling. In another aspect, an alarm system includes a monitoring component configured to detect a ventilation-related danger in a building, and a mitigation component configured to open at least one of a door or a window in the building automatically in response to a detection of the ventilation-related danger. In a further aspect, a method includes monitoring a building for a ventilation-related danger, and opening at least one of a door or a window in the building automatically in response to a detection of the ventilation-related danger.

Fire alarm inspection application and user interface

A system and method for facilitating inspection of fire alarm systems includes a graphical user interface rendered on a touchscreen display of a mobile computing device receiving selections of inspection results. The graphical user interface includes a testing pane, which indicates devices that are currently being tested, and a selection pane, which indicates devices yet to be tested. The devices indicated by the selection pane are filtered according to the inferred location of the inspector or the inferred order of test. Selection of devices indicated by the selection pane results in those devices being indicated by the testing pane. Results of inspections of the devices indicated by the testing pane are then selected by the touchscreen display detecting gestures (e.g. swipes toward the left or right) corresponding to different results. The results are sent to a connected services system and stored in a connected services database.

Apparatus, system and methods for providing notifications and dynamic security information during an emergency crisis

The present invention provides a system and methods for notifying first responders of the general or specific location of a security crisis or threat in a building or public location, and the type of threat or crisis that has occurred, while notifying building occupants or others in the public location of the crisis and how to respond. The crisis management and notification system provides critical information to the first responders, including initial location of the crisis and whether the crisis location has changed in real time, audio and video input of the crisis arena, communications with designated occupants in the crisis arena, static building or location information, and other information. The crisis notification system can be scaled to allow the effective use in facilities of differing sizes and layouts. The system is also flexible, enabling the system to integrate with currently existing systems or to operate with new devices.

EXPANDABLE SECURITY SYSTEM

A computer-implemented method includes receiving, by a base station of a first security system, an identification of a portable security system. The method further includes adding, by the base station, the portable security system as a sensor to a plurality of sensors monitored by the first security system. The method further includes configuring, by the base station, the portable security system in protect-mode, wherein the portable security system sounds an alarm in response to a sensor from the second system indicating a security-breach. The method further includes in response to the alarm from the portable security system, generating, by the base station, an alarm event of the first security system.

Techniques are described for determining that a property is vacant based on monitoring data collected by connected sensors and appliances near or within the property. In response to determining that a property is vacant, the condition of the vacant property can be monitored for various risks such as fire safety and security breaches. Monitoring techniques may also be used to determine when a new customer (e.g., a new tenant or property owner) has moved into the property. In response to detecting a move-in, one or more notifications may be transmitted to assist the new customer to customize a security system associated with the property. In this regard, techniques described herein may be used by service providers to improve the transition associated with move-in and move-out processes, which may also improve retention of monitoring services.

Integrated security system with parallel processing architecture

Methods and systems for managing a premises are disclosed. The premises may comprise a premises management device. The premises management device may be in communication with a security system. The premises management device may manage consumption by maintaining or disabling components associated with the premise management device.

Automated methods and apparatus for facilitating the design and deployment of monitoring systems

Methods and apparatus for automating various aspects relating to the design and/or deployment of monitoring systems, e.g., systems which can monitor for fire, break-ins and/or other conditions are described. In various embodiments a customer provides location and customer premises layout information as well as an indication of what is to be monitored. A rules database is accessed and a plan that is compliant with local rules is automatically generated. A user is walked through deployment of components, e.g., on his cell phone or other handheld communications device, in an easy to follow manner with monitoring device position, wireless communications ability, and function being checked automatically as part of the process as each sensor is deployed. If wireless connectivity is a problem suggestions are presented to the user for moving a sensor, e.g., camera. At the end of the process the system is activated and monitoring of the premises initiated.

Mobile device as a security system component

In one implementation, a method for using a mobile computing device as a security system component includes receiving, from a mobile device and by a security system gateway, mobile device sensor information associated with sensor data captured by the mobile device at a premises monitored by the security system gateway; identifying, based on the received sensor information, a mobile device sensor information rule; identifying an action to perform in the mobile device sensor information rule; and automatically performing the identified action, by the security system gateway, in response to receiving the sensor information from the mobile device.
