A portable protection apparatus includes a protective shield, a handle, a rechargeable battery, electrical circuitry configured to be powered by the rechargeable battery, and a first display element positioned on a first side of the protective shield. The first display element is configured to selectively display an instructional message when directed by the electrical circuitry, wherein the first display element is configured to be visible at a distance from the first side of the protective shield. The portable protection apparatus also includes a second display element positioned on a second side of the protective shield configured to display the instructional message to the user holding the protective shield.

Security sentinel robot

A building monitoring system includes a first sensor configured to detect a first condition in the space, a second sensor configured to detect a second condition in the space, and a robotic sentinel. The robotic sentinel includes a memory for storing one or more rules each configured to identify an alert condition for the space based on the first and/or second conditions in the space, a communications module configured to communicate with a remote device over a network, and a controller operatively coupled to the sensors, the memory, and the communications module. The controller is configured to apply the one or more rules to the first and second detected conditions in the space to identify one or more alert conditions and determine what action is required by the robotic sentinel, and if action is required, command the robotic sentinel to travel to a location of the alert condition.

A portable shield includes a protective shield and a handle attached to the protective shield for holding and carrying the portable shield from a first side of the protective shield. The portable shield further includes a battery and a display element powered by the battery. The display is configured for electronically displaying an instructional message that is visible from a second side of the protective shield at a distance, wherein the second side is opposite the first side. The portable shield further includes electronic circuitry powered by the battery that is configured for selectively displaying the instructional message on the display element. In some examples, the portable shield may wirelessly receive information regarding the instructional message from a base station along with other instances of the portable shield.

An example method is disclosed, the method comprising: (i) detecting, via a first sensor of an alert system configured for use with a vehicle, a living being inside the vehicle; (ii) measuring, via a second sensor, an environmental feature inside the vehicle; (iii) based at least on the detection of the living being and the measured environmental feature, determining, an alert condition inside the vehicle; (iv) selecting a first computational action based at least on the determined alert condition; (v) transmitting an instruction that causes a component of the vehicle to perform the selected first computational action; (vi) selecting a second computational action based at least on the determined alert condition; and (vii) transmitting, via a network interface, to at least one computing device that is remote from the alert system, an instruction that causes at least one remote computing device to perform the selected second computational action.

DETERMINATION AND NOTIFICATION OF A LOCATION OF A BUILDING SAFETY SYSTEM EVENT

Methods, systems, and devices for determination and notification of a location of a building safety system event are described herein. One embodiment includes a method for notifying a user of a fire system event, comprising detecting an event in a building through an event detection device and transmitting information about at least one of the event or the event detection device to a remote server and to a first computing device. The first computing device may include a memory wherein floorplans of each floor of the building are stored. The method may further comprise determining, based on the information and through the first computing device, a floor of the building on which the first event was detected; transmitting a particular floorplan of that floor to the remote server; determining a specific location within the floor at which the first event was detected; generating a visual floor representation, including an indication of the specific location, based on the particular floorplan and the specific location; and transmitting the visual floor representation to a software application comprised of executable instructions stored in the memory of a second computing device to present the visual floor representation to a user.

Monitoring of patient supports

A hospital bed is configured to monitor data from a second patient support based on the one or more alarms set by the user. The hospital bed detects whether an alarm triggering event occurred based on the monitored data. In response to a determination that the alarm triggering event occurred, the hospital bed will provide a signal indicative of the alarm triggering event to a nurse call system.

Determining a restricted apparatus with respect to a location

A method and system for determining restricted apparatuses with respect to a location is provided. The method includes determining that a user is in possession of a restricted apparatus. A video based process and a global positioning system (GPS) based process is executed with respect to the restricted apparatus and a location associated with a user. Restrictions associated with the restricted apparatus with respect to the location associated with the user are determined based on results of the video based process and the GPS based process. The restrictions are presented to the user.
