PLAYING APPARATUS AND PLAYING METHOD
A set of first signal light and reference light with a phase difference of almost 0 degree, a set of second signal light and reference light with a phase difference of almost 180 degrees, a set of third signal light and reference light with a phase difference of almost 90 degrees, and a set of fourth signal light and reference light with a phase difference of almost 270 degrees are generated. A first differential signal as a difference between a first light-receiving signal obtained by a first light-receiving element and a second light-receiving signal obtained by a second light-receiving element is calculated, and a second differential signal as a difference between a third light-receiving signal obtained by a third light-receiving element and a fourth light-receiving signal obtained by a fourth light-receiving element is calculated. The first differential signal and the second differential signal are supplied to respective FIR filters. An equalization error is formed from output signals from the FIR filters. Tap coefficients for the FIR filters are controlled to minimize the equalization error.

A multi-sensory media experience delivery platform includes a vibroacoustic therapy bed that delivers a multi-sensory media experience locally stored, streaming, on-demand, or real-time signals. The vibroacoustic therapy bed drives a plurality of sensory output devices based on a set of sensory output channels to produce sounds, vibrations, light patterns, or other sensory outputs. The channels may be derived from dedicated signals created for a specific sensory output device or may be derived from an audio file or other general set of waveforms. The multi-sensory media experience may be customized to a user based on user profile data, metadata associated with the multi-sensory media experience, or biometric data. Furthermore, users can create customized multi-sensory media experiences from libraries of sounds or other media.

Identifying a defect in a data-storage medium
An embodiment of a data-read path includes a defect detector and a data-recovery circuit. The defect detector is operable to identify a defective region of a data-storage medium, and the data-recovery circuit is operable to recover data from the data-storage medium in response to the defect detector. For example, such an embodiment may allow identifying a defective region of a data-storage disk caused, e.g., by a scratch or contamination, and may allow recovering data that was written to the defective region.
DATA DETECTION DEVICE, PLAYBACK DEVICE, AND DATA DETECTION METHOD
Data detection capability is improved by whitening crosstalk noise from an equalization signal and detecting binary data. Each of a plurality of detection signals is input to one of a plurality of adaptive equalizers, and outputs of the plurality of adaptive equalizers are computed to obtain an equalization signal for returning light at the time of shining of light onto bounds including a target track subject to data detection and adjacent tracks of an optical recording medium having a plurality of tracks formed thereon. Crosstalk noise from the adjacent tracks included in the equalization signal obtained by this multi-input adaptive equalization process is whitened first, followed by a binarization process. Also, an equalization error is found, and supplied as a control signal for adaptive equalization. Further, a whitening factor updating process is also performed to adaptively update a filter factor of a whitening filter.
Data storage device demodulating servo stripes using matched filter
A data storage device is disclosed comprising at least one head configured to access a magnetic tape comprising a plurality of servo frames each comprising an A servo burst, a B servo burst, a C servo burst, and a D servo burst. The A servo burst in a first servo frame is read using the head to generate a first read signal which is sampled to generate first signal samples. A first matched filter matched to the A servo burst filters the first signal samples to generate first filtered samples within a first burst window, and the first burst window is updated based on the first filtered samples. The first filtered samples within the first burst window are processed to generate a position error signal (PES), and a position of the head is controlled relative to the magnetic tape based on the PES.

In-circuit calibration method of anti-aliasing filter
A computer-implemented method, according to one embodiment, includes, for a particular data read clock value, generating a series of symmetrical square wave signals, each having a frequency that is a different fraction of the data read clock frequency. Anti-aliasing filtering is performed on each of the symmetrical square wave signals using predefined anti-aliasing settings. The filtered symmetrical square wave signals are passed through a band pass filter, the band pass filter being set to pass a single harmonic frequency of each of the symmetrical square wave signals. An amplitude of each of the band pass filtered symmetrical square wave signals is measured. In response to the amplitudes of the symmetrical square wave signals being within a predefined range, the anti-aliasing settings are stored. In response to the amplitudes of the symmetrical square wave signals being outside the predefined range, the anti-aliasing settings are changed, and the method is repeated.
