Disclosed is a method of facilitating straining of a semiconductor element (331) for semiconductor fabrication. In a described embodiment, the method comprises: providing a base layer (320) with the semiconductor element (331) arranged on a first base portion (321) of the base layer (320), the semiconductor element (331) being subjected to a strain relating to a characteristic of the first base portion (321); and adjusting the characteristic of the first base portion (321) to facilitate straining of the semiconductor element (331).

Semiconductor structure having group III-V device on group IV substrate and contacts with precursor stacks

A semiconductor structure includes a group IV substrate and a patterned group III-V device over the group IV substrate. Precursor stacks having at least one precursor metal are situated over at least one portion of the patterned group III-V device. A blanket dielectric layer is situated over the patterned group III-V device. Contact holes in the blanket dielectric layer are situated over each precursor stack. A filler metal is situated in each contact hole and over each precursor stack. The patterned group III-V device can be optically and/or electrically connected to group IV devices in the group IV substrate. Additional contact holes in the blanket dielectric layer can be situated over the group IV devices and filled with the filler metals.

PHOTODETECTOR

A photodetector including: an amplification region that includes a PN junction provided in a depth direction in a semiconductor layer and that is to be electrically coupled to a cathode; a separation region that defines a pixel region including the amplification region; a hole accumulation region that is provided along a side surface of the separation region and that is to be electrically coupled to an anode; and a gate electrode provided in a region between the amplification region and the hole accumulation region and stacked over the semiconductor layer with a gate insulating film interposed therebetween.

Provided is an ultraviolet light receiving device having photosensitivity effective to target wavelengths in the ultraviolet region. A Schottky junction ultraviolet light receiving device has the photosensitivity peak wavelength in an ultraviolet region of 230 nm or more and 320 nm or less, and exhibits a rejection ratio of 10.sup.5 or more, the rejection ratio being the ratio of the responsivity Rp to the peak photosensitivity wavelength to the average of the responsivity Rv to a visible region of 400 nm or more and 680 nm or less (Rp/Rv).

Radiation detector

The present embodiment relates to a radiation detector having a structure enabling suppression of polarization in a thallium bromide crystalline body and suppression of corrosion of an electrode in the air. The radiation detector comprises a first electrode, a second electrode, and a thallium bromide crystalline body provided between the first and second electrodes. One of the first and the second electrodes includes an alloy layer and a low-resistance metal layer provide on the alloy layer. The alloy layer is comprised of an alloy of metallic thallium and another metal different from the metallic thallium. The low-resistance metal layer has a resistance value lower than a resistance value of the alloy layer and is electrically connected to a pad on a readout circuit while the radiation detector is mounted on the readout circuit.

Sensors and electronic devices

A sensor includes a first electrode and a second electrode, and a photo-active layer between the first electrode and the second electrode. The photo-active layer includes a light absorbing semiconductor configured to form a Schottky junction with the first electrode. The photo-active layer has a charge carrier trapping site configured to capture photo-generated charge carriers generated based on the light absorbing semiconductor absorbing incident light that enters at least the photo-active layer at a position adjacent to the first electrode. The sensor is configured to have an external quantum efficiency (EQE) that is adjusted based on a voltage bias being applied between the first electrode and the second electrode.

According to the present disclosure, techniques related to manufacturing and applications of power photodiode structures and devices based on group-III metal nitride and gallium-based substrates are provided. More specifically, embodiments of the disclosure include techniques for fabricating photodiode devices comprising one or more of GaN, AlN, InN, InGaN, AlGaN, and AlInGaN, structures and devices. Such structures or devices can be used for a variety of applications including optoelectronic devices, photodiodes, power-over-fiber receivers, and others.

Silicon carbide-based full-spectrum-responsive photodetector and method for producing same

The present application relates to semiconductor photodetectors, in particular to a silicon carbide-based UV-visible-NIR full-spectrum-responsive photodetector and a method for fabricating the same. The photodetector includes a silicon carbide substrate, and metal counter electrodes and a surface plasmon polariton nanostructure arranged thereon. The silicon carbide substrate and the metal counter electrodes constitute a metal-semiconductor-metal photodetector with coplanar electrodes. When the ultraviolet light is input, free carriers directly generated in silicon carbide are collected by an external circuit to generate electrical signals. When the visible light is input, hot carriers generated in the surface plasmon polariton nanostructure tunnel into the silicon carbide semiconductor to become free carriers to generate electrical signals.
