A Doherty amplifier circuit comprising: a splitter having: a splitter-input-terminal for receiving an input signal; a main-splitter-output-terminal; and a peaking-splitter-output-terminal; a main-power-amplifier having a main-power-input-terminal and a main-power-output-terminal, wherein; the main-power-input-terminal is connected to the main-splitter-output-terminal; and the main-power-output-terminal is configured to provide a main-power-amplifier-output-signal; a peaking-power-amplifier having a peaking-power-input-terminal and a peaking-power-output-terminal, wherein: the peaking-power-input-terminal is connected to the peaking-splitter-output-terminal; and the peaking-power-output-terminal is configured to provide a peaking-power-amplifier-output-signal. The splitter, the main-power-amplifier and the peaking-power-amplifier are provided by means of an integrated circuit.

The presented devices and methods provide benefits of scalability, frequency band agility, as well as size reduction by using one low noise amplifier per simultaneous outputs. Based on the disclosed teachings, variable gain amplification of multiband signals is also presented.

A power amplifier system for amplifying a radio frequency signal can have a driver transistor coupled to a radio frequency signal input. The system can also have a transformer balun with a main primary coil connected between the driver transistor and a voltage supply node of the power amplifier system, a secondary coil magnetically coupled to the main primary coil, and an additional primary coil configured to generate a feedback signal related to a signal induced in the main primary coil. A neutralization diode can be configured to use the feedback signal to reduce a gain variation resulting from variations in a voltage supplied from the voltage supply node of the power amplifier system. The neutralization diode can be connected between the additional primary coil and the driver transistor. Through envelope tracking, voltage supplied through the voltage supply node can change in relation to an envelope of the radio frequency signal.

The amplification unit includes an input terminal coupled to the input terminal of the amplifier circuit, an output terminal coupled to the output terminal of the amplifier circuit, a first terminal coupled to a first voltage terminal, and a second terminal coupled to a second voltage terminal. The phase adjustment unit is coupled to the amplification unit. When the amplifier circuit is operated in a first mode, the output signal has a first phase, and when the amplifier circuit is operated in a second mode, the output signal has a second phase. A difference between the first phase and the second phase is within a predetermined range.
