Digital to analog (DAC) converter with current calibration

A digital to analog converter convert digital data in binary format to thermometer bit vectors. A first set of the thermometer bit vectors corresponds to most significant bits of the digital data and a second set of the thermometer bit vectors corresponds to least significant bits of the digital data. Connections of first current sources corresponding to the first set of the thermometer bit vectors and second current sources corresponding to the second set of the thermometer bit vectors are dynamically and randomly alternated to a first output line and a second output line. Calibration current is applied to the second current sources so a total current of the second current sources and the calibration current is within a predetermined range of an average current of the first current sources.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR TRANSITION AWARE BINARY SWITCHING FOR DIGITAL-TO-ANALOG CONVERTERS (DACS)

A system may have a multiplexer and a controller. For a transition from a first pair of bits in first data provided to digital-to-analog converters (DACs) to a second pair of bits in second data, the controller may determine whether the transition is of a first type or of a second type, and in response to determining that the transition is of the first type, control the multiplexer to output the second pair of bits to the DACs. In response to determining that the transition is of the second type and the second pair of bits are to be swapped, the controller may control the multiplexer to output a swapped pair of bits to the DACs. Data output by the multiplexer based on the second data has a predetermined number of bits that have binary values different from those of corresponding bits in the first data.

Synchronizer logic includes a selection input and first and second synchronization outputs, in which the first synchronization output is coupled to the first select switch input and the second synchronization output is coupled to the second select switch input. Selection logic includes a data input, a sign control output and a selection control output, in which the sign control output is coupled to the first and second sign switch inputs, and the selection control output is coupled to the selection input.
