An information processing apparatus connectable to one or more devices via a network. The apparatus includes a measuring unit measuring an inclination of the apparatus; a determining unit determining whether the inclination of the apparatus relative to a given surface of one of the one or more devices is within a predetermined inclination range; a receiving unit that receives radio waves; an obtaining unit obtaining identification information from the radio waves; a radio wave strength measuring unit measuring strength of the radio waves; a selection unit determining whether to select a given one of the one or more devices based on the strength of the radio waves; and a connection unit connecting the information processing apparatus to one of the one or more devices selected by the selection unit and for which the inclination of the apparatus is within the predetermined inclination range.

According to one embodiment, an image forming apparatus includes a detachable device, an antenna, and a control unit. The detachable device is attachable to and detachable from the own apparatus and includes a wireless tag. The antenna receives a wireless signal from the wireless tag if the detachable device is mounted. The control unit determines that the detachable device is mounted to the own apparatus based on the wireless signal received by the antenna.

An image forming apparatus, detection method, and image forming system are provided. The apparatus includes a communication interface, a detector, and a notification interface. The communication interface communicates with a wireless tag at a connection position where a sheet conveyance path is formed between the apparatus and a retrofit device equipped with the wireless tag. The detector detects a connection state between the retrofit device and the apparatus based on a communication result of the communication interface. The notification interface provides a notification based on the connection state detected by the detector. The detection method includes detecting a connection state between the retrofit device and the apparatus based on a communication result of the communication interface, and providing a notification based on the connection state detected in the detection. The image forming system includes an apparatus and a retrofit device provided with a wireless tag.

Apparatus, systems and techniques associated with battery powered wireless camera systems are provided. In an example, a system includes a battery powered wireless camera including an internal battery to provide energy and an image capture module to capture infrared images. Further, the battery powered wireless camera includes a low-bandwidth radio transceiver which may wirelessly communicate with a base station, and may receive commands for operation of the battery powered wireless camera. The battery powered wireless camera also includes a high-bandwidth radio transceiver which may wirelessly communicate with the base station. If the high-bandwidth radio transceiver is powered down, the image capture module may store captured infrared images. If an infrared detection module triggers activation, the high-bandwidth radio transceiver may power up and transmit the captured images to the base station. In an example, the low-bandwidth radio transceiver may wirelessly communicate with the base station over a low-bandwidth radio link.

A multi-function peripheral as an image processing device according to the present invention is wirelessly connected with a mobile terminal having a display and is capable of accepting an operation by a user via the mobile terminal. For this, a terminal side setting screen for operating the multi-function peripheral is displayed on the display of the mobile terminal. The terminal side setting screen includes buttons for an operation requiring the user to be in the vicinity of the multi-function peripheral. An image forming apparatus includes a communication portion arranged inside a cover covering an image forming portion in the main body of the apparatus and including an antenna surface for use in establishing near field communication. The cover includes a stacking portion in its upper section. The stacking portion is configured to receive a recording medium with an image thereon, the recording medium being discharged outside the main body of the apparatus. The antenna surface faces a region of the upper section of the cover downstream in a direction of discharging the recording medium. The antenna surface at least partially faces a region of the upper section of the cover outside the stacking portion in a direction perpendicular to the direction of discharging the recording medium. The communication portion is capable of communicating with another communication portion using near field communication.
