A conveyance device that conveys paper through a conveyance path along a surface thereof includes: a conveyance guide that has a guide surface to be a wall surface on one side of the conveyance path, an opening being formed in the guide surface; a paper detection unit at least including a detection member, which is arranged in a space that communicates with the conveyance path through the opening, and configured to detect, with the detection member, a leading end of the paper that reaches the opening; and a movable body that brings the detection member into a retracted state, in which a main part thereof is covered from the space, after the leading end of the paper is detected.

A printing apparatus has first and second sheet storage units, where a second sheet conveyance path is longer than a first sheet conveyance path, and includes a determining unit and a permitting unit. When a sheet stored in the first sheet storage unit is for printing of a Nth page included in a first job and a sheet stored in the second sheet storage unit is for printing of a N+1th page included in the same first job, the determining unit determines a feeding schedule in which the N+1th page sheet feeding is initiated before the Nth page sheet feeding is initiated. When an issued instruction is issued to perform a second job by interrupting the first job after determining the feeding schedule, the permitting unit permits printing of a page included in the second job before the printing of the N+1th page included in the first job.

Copy and scan printing may include scanning, by scanner disposed along a paper path between a paper delivery roller and a paper pickup roller, content of documents (302). Further, copy and scan printing may include determining whether the documents are to be copied (304), in response to a determination that the documents are to be copied, determining whether a page count of the documents to be copied is available (306), and generating copies of the documents (310).

An upper unit includes a feed tray configured to support a document to be fed such that the document is inclined, a transport path configured to reverse the document fed in a direction having a vertically downward component by a feed tray in a direction having a vertically upward component, a first reader disposed on the transport path, and a discharge tray configured to support the discharged document such that the document is inclined. A lower unit includes a document positioning plate on which a document is mounted, and includes a second reader disposed vertically below the document positioning plate and configured to read the document mounted on the document positioning plate. A portion of the first reader and a portion of the document positioning plate overlap when viewed from vertically above.

According to one embodiment, there is provided an image reading device including a conveyance unit, a reading unit, and a control unit. The conveyance unit is configured to convey a sheet to a reading surface. The reading unit is configured to read a predetermined pattern image formed on the sheet conveyed by the conveyance unit for each of a plurality of reading candidate positions on the reading surface which are different from each other in a conveyance direction of the sheet. The control unit is configured to cause a reading position of the reading unit to be moved in the conveyance direction on the reading surface by causing the reading unit to be moved based on reading magnification of each of the pattern images read for each of the reading candidate positions.

Copy and scan printing may include scanning, by scanner disposed along a paper path between a paper delivery roller and a paper pickup roller, content of documents (302). Further, copy and scan printing may include determining whether the documents are to be copied (304), in response to a determination that the documents are to be copied, determining whether a page count of the documents to be copied is available (306), and generating copies of the documents (310).

An upper unit includes a feed tray configured to support a document to be fed such that the document is inclined, a transport path configured to reverse the document fed in a direction having a vertically downward component by a feed tray in a direction having a vertically upward component, a first reader disposed on the transport path, and a discharge tray configured to support the discharged document such that the document is inclined. A lower unit includes a document positioning plate on which a document is mounted, and includes a second reader disposed vertically below the document positioning plate and configured to read the document mounted on the document positioning plate. A portion of the first reader and a portion of the document positioning plate overlap when viewed from vertically above.

An image forming apparatus that prevents, when reducing variation in thickness of thin lines, the legibility of the thin lines from being adversely affected thereby. When print data is acquired, in a rendering process for printing based on the acquired print data, the rendering process including a line width adjustment process is executed. In a case where the line width adjustment process is executed on the print data, not only the line width adjustment process but also a process for thickening thin lines is executed.

A scanner includes a feeding unit, a transport unit provided downstream of the feeding unit, and a first reading unit provided downstream of the transport unit, a second reading unit provided to face the first reading unit across the transport path and configured to be displaceable in a direction of advancing and retreating with respect to the first reading unit, a second medium detection portion as detection means for detecting a specific portion provided in the sheet holder for specifying front and back sides of the sheet holder in which the booklet is sandwiched, and a control unit that determines whether or not a reading surface of the sheet holder faces the first reading unit based on the detection information of the second medium detection portion and executes a front/back side determination processing mode for performing processing based on the determination.

A document reading device includes an image reading part, a document conveying part, an operation display part, an overlap detecting part and a controlling part. The overlap detecting part detects overlap of a document conveyed to the image reading part. When the overlap detecting part detects the overlap, if an overlap image corresponding to the overlap in the image data obtained by the image reading part matches with a predetermined preservation image, the controlling part decides that the overlap is not double feed to continue the scanning operation. If the overlap image does not match with the predetermined preservation image, the controlling part decides that the overlap is the double feed, stops the scanning operation, and, if user judgement that the overlap is not the double feed is inputted in accordance with operation of the operation display part, stores the preservation image on the basis of the overlap image.
