A publisher configured to record data on a medium by a first media drive and a second media drive and including a publisher controller and a publisher storage, the publisher controller being configured to detect a type of a medium on which data is recordable by the first media drive and detect a type of a medium on which data is recordable by the second media drive, the type of the medium on which data is recordable by the first media drive and the second media drive being defined as a recording target type, the type of a medium on which data is recordable by only any one of the first media drive and the second media drive being defined as a non-recording target type, and the publisher being configured to store target type information representing the recording target type and the non-recording target type.

An original feeding device includes a pick-up roller, a separation feeding unit, a first original presence/absence detecting sensor, a second original presence/absence detecting sensor and a control unit. When an original is detected by the first and second original presence/absence detecting sensors, the control unit discriminates that the original on the original tray has a first width. When the original is detected by the first original presence/absence detecting sensor but is not detected by the second original presence/absence detecting sensor, the control unit discriminates that the original has a second width smaller than the first width. After the control unit discriminates that the original has the second width and then feeding of the original is started, and then the original is detected by the second original presence/absence detecting sensor, the control unit stops the drive of the pick-up roller and the drive of the separation feeding unit.

In a case where it is determined that a document is left behind, a display control unit is configured to control display of an icon using a result of detection by a second detection unit without using at least a result of detection by a first detection unit.

An image reading apparatus includes a first scanner provided in a housing, a conveyance unit, and a first calibration member. The conveyance unit is provided with a separation unit which separates the first calibration member upward from the first scanner. When the first calibration member is separated, the separation unit releases connection between the conveyance unit and the housing.

A controller of an image reading apparatus is configured to cause the reading device to read an image on an original with moving a reading location from a first position to a second position, after reading the image on the original with moving the reading location from a third position to the first position, the third position being a position between the first position and the second position and spaced from the first position by a particular distance and determining a width of the original in the main scanning direction. The controller is configured to further move the reading location from the second position to the first position, and detect an instruction to continue reading a subsequent original during a period before the reading location reaches the third position. When the instruction is detected, the controller stops moving the reading location when it reaches the third position.

A sheet detecting apparatus includes: a light emitting unit that emits light emitted toward a detection position; a light receiving unit that is provided to receive the light reflected by a sheet present at the detection position and that outputs an electric signal which corresponds to a received light amount; and an adjustment processing unit that adjusts, within a specified range, a duty ratio of a drive pulse signal used to drive the light emitting unit, so that a detection value of the electric signal output from the light receiving unit is included in a specified standard range; and a decision processing unit that decides the specified range based on a change range which is among a variable range of the duty ratio of the drive pulse signal and in which the detection value of the electric signal changes in response to a change in the duty ratio.

A sheet conveying device includes a reception processing portion and a conveyance control portion. The reception processing portion receives an input operation to input conveyance route information that indicates which of a first conveyance route, leading to a first discharge portion via a first conveyance path that extends straight from a sheet placement portion, and a second conveyance route, leading to a second discharge portion, which is different from the first discharge portion, via a second conveyance path that includes a curved portion branching off from the first conveyance path, each sheet included in a sheet stack placed on the sheet placement portion is conveyed along. The conveyance control portion sequentially conveys each sheet included in the sheet stack placed on the sheet placement portion along either the first conveyance route or the second conveyance route according to the conveyance route information input through the input operation.

A feeding device includes: a supply unit that supplies air to a space between a plurality of loaded media to float the media; a feeding unit that feeds out the media floated by the supply unit; and a detection unit that detects whether or not a medium bundle is present among the plurality of media in a state of being floated by the supply unit.

According to one embodiment, an image forming apparatus includes a conveyance mechanism, a scanner, a buffer memory, a passage sensor, and a controller. The conveyance mechanism conveys a document along a conveyance path. The scanner reads an image on the document at a reading position along the conveyance path and generates image signals corresponding to the image that is read. The buffer memory stores image data corresponding to the image signals. The passage sensor is on the conveyance path upstream of the reading position. The controller determines whether to output the image data from the buffer memory after a sheet passage prediction time elapses based on the length of time required during a normal operation for the trailing edge of the document to reach the reading position.

A first zone and a second zone of a scan surface may be scanned by an image sensor. A lid may be coupled to the scan surface and have an open position and a closed position, the lid being to cover the first zone and the second zone when in the closed position. The position of a lid may be determined based on a comparison of a scan of the first zone and a scan of the second zone.
