A medium transportation device includes a supply roller configured to send a medium downstream, at least one stopper configured to be switched between a blocking state in which the at least one stopper blocks the transportation path and an open state in which the at least one stopper opens the transportation path, and a controller configured to perform skew correction control in which a leading edge of the medium is brought in contact with the at least one stopper in the blocking state to correct skew of the medium. The controller is configured to obtain information about a stiffness of the medium and, when a second medium having a lower stiffness than a first medium is transported, the controller switches the at least one stopper from the blocking state to the open state to end the skew correction control earlier than the skew correction control of the first medium.

An image reading device includes a first reading device, a second reading device, and circuitry. The first reading device reads an image of one surface of a document. The second reading device reads an image of other surface of the document. The circuitry detects a first skew angle of skew in the read image of the one surface, performs skew correction on the image of the one surface based on the first skew angle, and forms a second skew angle for the image of the other surface. The second skew angle corresponds to reverse of the first skew angle. The circuitry further performs the skew correction on the image of the other surface based on the second skew angle, and outputs at least one of the image of the one surface subjected to the skew correction and the image of the other surface subjected to the skew correction.

A reading device includes a light source, an image sensor, a background board, and an image processing circuitry. The light source irradiates visible light and invisible light to a subject. The image sensor receives the visible light and the invisible light, each of which is reflected from the subject, to capture a visible image and an invisible image. The background board is provided in an image capturing range of the image sensor. The background board is a background portion. The image processing circuitry detects a feature amount of the subject and the background portion from at least one of the visible image and the invisible image.
Systems and methods for mobile image capture and content processing of driver's licenses
Systems and methods are provided for processing and extracting content from an image captured using a mobile device. In one embodiment, an image is captured by a mobile device and corrected to improve the quality of the image. The corrected image is then further processed by adjusting the image, identifying the format and layout of the document, binarizing the image and extracting the content using optical character recognition (OCR). Multiple methods of image adjusting may be implemented to accurately assess features of the document, and a secondary layout identification process may be performed to ensure that the content being extracted is properly classified.

An image reading apparatus includes a conveyance unit and a reading unit. Based on read image data from the reading unit, a tilt amount of an edge of a document on a leading edge side in a conveyance direction in which the document is conveyed is decided. If the decided tilt amount exceeds a first threshold where a setting that performs document digitalization with respect to the image data, notification is given of information indicating that reading of the document for the document digitalization has failed. If the decided tilt amount is smaller than the first threshold, skew correction is executed for correcting the tilt amount based on the decided tilt amount with respect to the image data, and the document digitalization is executed with respect to the image data for which the skew correction has been executed.

A document reading apparatus has a first scanning unit that can scan in a document conveyance direction and determines a document reading position, and a guide plate provided in a position that sandwiches the document being conveyed with the first scanning unit. On a facing surface of the guide plate relative to the first scanning unit, a first color section to which a white sheet is attached and a second color section having a sheet metal color (e.g. gray) of the guide plate are formed in the document conveyance direction. The document reading position corresponds to a position facing the second color section when a document is read in a crop mode.

An image reading apparatus includes an image reading portion, a rotation processing portion, a recognition processing portion and an inclination detecting portion. The image reading portion reads an image of a sheet conveyed through a conveyance path. The rotation processing portion applies rotation processing to the image of the sheet read by the image reading portion to generate a plurality of comparative images each having a different angle with respect to the conveyance direction of the sheet. The recognition processing portion applies recognition processing to a symbol of each of the plurality of comparative images to determine a corresponding matching degree. The inclination detecting portion detects the inclination of the image of the sheet based on the matching degrees.

An information processing apparatus includes a memory storing instructions and a processor to execute the instructions to perform operations. Four sides of a document included in captured image data are detected. Lengths of the detected four sides of the document are calculated. The operations further include determining which of a plurality of predefined paper sizes corresponds to the document based on the calculated lengths of the four sides. The determined corresponding paper size is set as a document size of the document.
