A print media detection apparatus may include a movable scanner bar for scanning media, a feeder tray for supplying the print media, a print media indicator and a controller. The print media indicator may include a first portion to interact with the print media within the feeder tray and a second portion coupled to the first portion to move in response to movement of the first portion. The scanner bar is to sense the second portion of the media indicator. The controller is to determine a characteristic of the print media within the feeder tray based upon sensing of the second portion by the scanner bar.

According to one embodiment, an image forming apparatus includes a conveying roller to convey sheets of different types along a conveyance path, a first sensor to detect a sheet being conveyed at a first position, a second sensor to detect the sheet being conveyed at a second position that is at a fixed distance downstream of the first position, a registration roller pair that is downstream of the second sensor, and a control unit. The control unit calculates a transit time for the sheet between the first position and the second position according detection results from the first and second sensors, and then sets a conveying distance for the sheet after the second position to be used for aligning the sheet against the registration roller pair based on the calculated transit time of the sheet.

An image formation apparatus includes: an image former that forms an image on a recording medium delivered along a predetermined delivery path; a first hardware processor that judges whether or not the recording medium is an envelope; a second hardware processor that acquires a basis weight of the envelope; a third hardware processor that determines, in case the first hardware processor judges that the recording medium is the envelope, control for forming an image on the envelope by the image former on the basis of the basis weight of the envelope acquired by the second hardware processor.

The multifunction peripheral of the present invention includes an ADF document crop function. An image forming apparatus includes a recording medium accommodation portion that accommodates a recording medium, a storage portion that stores information about the recording medium that is accommodated in the recording medium accommodation portion and previously printed, a sensing portion that senses opening and closing of the recording medium accommodation portion, a comparison portion that compares currently set setting information about the recording medium with the information about the recording medium stored in the storage portion on a condition that the sensing portion senses that the recording medium accommodation portion is not open between previous printing and current printing, and an output portion that outputs a comparison result of the comparison portion.

An identification apparatus for identifying a type of a sheet obtains, by a sensor, a plurality of parameters including a parameter concerning a characteristic of the sheet, and identifies the type of the sheet based on a result of inputting the plurality of parameters obtained by the sensor to an estimation model obtained by machine learning using, as input data, parameters corresponding to the parameters which are obtained by the sensor and include a first parameter and a second parameter classified in accordance with whether a value tends to change due to a predetermined element, and also using, as supervised data, a type of a sheet if the parameters are obtained. The estimation model includes a first partial model to which the first parameter is input and the second parameter is not input, a second partial model to which the second parameter is input and the first parameter is not input, and a third partial model that outputs a result concerning the type of the sheet based on an output from the first partial model and an output from the second partial model.

An image forming apparatus includes: an image forming unit configured to form an image onto a sheet; a conveyance roller configured to convey the sheet through a conveyance path, the conveyance path including a curved path being bent; a sensor configured to read the image formed on the sheet conveyed through the conveyance path by the conveyance roller, the sensor being configured to read the image formed on the sheet when a part of the sheet is conveyed through the curved path; and a controller configured to obtain information related to a type of the sheet, and to control, based on the information, a conveying speed of the sheet conveyed by the conveyance roller when the sensor reads the image.

A sheet conveyance apparatus includes a sheet conveyor configured to convey a sheet, a guide configured to form a conveyance path through which the sheet is conveyed by the sheet conveyor, and a sensor disposed on a same side as the guide with respect to the conveyance path. The guide includes a retracted portion disposed over a first region in a sheet width direction perpendicular to a sheet conveyance direction, the retracted portion being retracted with respect to a second region of the guide in the sheet width direction so as not to come into contact with the sheet passing through the conveyance path, the first region including a detection region of the sensor in the sheet width direction, the second region being a sheet passing region of the sheet in the sheet width direction excluding the first region.

An information processing apparatus includes a processor configured to: obtain characteristic values including smoothness and basis weight of a recording medium; and identify the type of the recording medium on the basis of the smoothness and the basis weight.
