Methods and apparatus are described for transparently processing a fax transmission by a fax software program in a mobile device. In one embodiment, the fax software program identifies an incoming call at the mobile device. Upon the identification, the program prevents a display screen of the mobile device from outputting an incoming call ringing alert. The program answers the incoming call and analyzes the call to detect whether the answered call is a voice call. Upon detecting that the answered incoming call is a voice call, the program outputs the incoming call ringing alert via the display screen. Otherwise, if the answered incoming call is a fax transmission, the program merges the call with a fax server, such that the fax server receives the fax transmission. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

Some embodiments of a control method of an image transmission apparatus comprise reading a document to generate image data, recognizing character information of the image data, acquiring a plurality of addresses from the recognized character information, selecting an address from among a plurality of acquired addresses, and setting the address selected from the plurality of addresses as a transmission address.

An image transmitting apparatus which transmits an image to a predetermined transmission destination. The apparatus includes an input unit which inputs an image to be transmitted, an authentication unit which authenticates a user by user authentication, a user information acquisition unit which obtains transmission destination information associated with the user if the authentication by the authentication unit is successful, a transmission destination designation unit which designates a transmission destination to which the image should be transmitted, a determination unit which determines, according to details of the transmission destination designated by the transmission destination designation unit, whether or not the image should be transmitted to the transmission designation associated with the user, and a transmission unit which transmits the image based on the result of determination made by the determination unit.

An image transmitting apparatus includes a scanner that reads an original, a memory that stores programs, and a processor that executes the programs. The programs are executed to identify destination information of a user for the image transmitting apparatus, and transmit image data corresponding to the read original using the identified destination information in a case where the user does not designate a destination.

Various approaches for providing textual information to an application, system, or service are disclosed. In particular, various embodiments enable a user to capture an image with a camera of a portable computing device. The computing device is capable of taking the image and processing it to recognize, identify, and/or isolate the text in order to forward the text to an application or function. The application or function can then utilize the text to perform an action in substantially real-time. The text may include an email, phone number, URL, an address, and the like and the application or function may be dialing the phone number, navigating to the URL, opening an address book to save contact information, displaying a map to show the address, and so on.

A portable device and a method of executing the fast association function of a camera are provided. The method includes activating the camera, capturing a gathering image using the camera, activating a user function registered as an associated function of the camera when the gathering image is captured, and performing the registered user function based on the gathering image.
