A remote control system and related method for controlling a video device are presented. The remote control system contains a plurality of buttons arranged in a grid pattern that correspond to user selectable options displayed on a display screen arranged in the same grid pattern. The user selects options on the screen by pressing the corresponding button on the remote control.

Systems and methods for mapping keys on a remote control device to digital content items are disclosed. An algorithm is trained, based on user's consumption pattern, to determine whether a digital content item would be relevant to the user. If the digital content item matches the consumption pattern, then a key is automatically mapped, and if it does not, then a notification that includes a mapping suggestion is generated and mapped upon approval. A mapping table is updated to store only valid mappings. An input of a key results in quick display of the mapped digital content item from where it was previously exited.

A key can be mapped to a single or multiple digital content items. If similarities are detected between multiple digital content items, then they may both be mapped to the same key.

A display apparatus is provided. The display apparatus includes a display configured to display a user interface window for receiving a letter input; a communication interface configured to receive a control instruction for inputting letters from a control device; and a controller configured to control the display to selectively display an on-screen keypad for inputting letters on the user interface window based on whether the control device includes letter keys for inputting letters.

Systems and methods for controlling a smart streaming device are disclosed herein. The smart streaming device is controlled based on a position of an ultra-wideband (UWB) device. Based on the position of the UWB device, one or more service events for the smart streaming device can be conducted. For example, a privacy mode of the smart streaming device can be enabled or disabled based on the position of the UWB device. In another example, a distance can be determined between the smart streaming device and the position of the UWB device. Based on the distance, an output configuration of the smart streaming device can be set, such as dynamically adjusting volume or text size on the smart streaming device.

A remote control system and related method for controlling a video device are presented. Disclosed are a smart TV controlling method and a smart TV thereof, the method including: determining currently running UI; obtaining key controlling policy for the currently running UI according to pre-stored mapping between UI and key controlling policy, the key controlling policy indicating adjustment for UI controlling keys; generating controlling instruction according to received key information sent from remote controlling device and key controlling policy for the currently running UI; and sending the controlling instruction to the currently running UI for the UI to perform operation associated with the controlling instruction. The key information sent from the remote controlling device is adaptable to different UIs according to different key controlling policies of different UIs, allowing operations associated with key information be adapted to the requirements of different UIs, so that appropriate adjustments are made to the current running UI according to the user's needs.

A TV audience survey system for determining the TV viewing activities of a plurality of individuals in a household includes a master device and multiple tags, each tag assigned to an individual. After an individual logs into the system and starts watching the TV, the master device communicates with the corresponding tag repeatedly to accumulate data representing the individual's TV viewing activities. Such data can be used to determine when the individual stops watching the TV for an extended period of time without logging out of the system and when the household member remains watching the TV after logging or being logged out of the system. The master device then reports the accumulated data to a remote server, which uses the data to determine whether the individual complies with the logging protocol defined by the TV audience survey system and update the TV viewership data associated with this household.

A display apparatus is provided. The display apparatus includes a display configured to display a user interface window for receiving a letter input; a communication interface configured to receive a control instruction for inputting letters from a control device; and a controller configured to control the display to selectively display an on-screen keypad for inputting letters on the user interface window based on whether the control device includes letter keys for inputting letters.

Embodiments provided herein involve connected states between a mobile device and one or more zones in a network media system and different interactions between the mobile device and the network media system involving the connected states. The connected states may be established between the mobile device and the one or more zones such that further actions taken on media items identified in the playlist on the mobile device may also be taken on corresponding media items in a playback queue associated with the one or more zones. The interface on the mobile device may display various graphical representations to indicate the different interactions involving the connected states, including when a connected state is established, when a connected state is lost, and when a reconnected state is reestablished. The interface may further provide selectable icons to allow a user to navigate among the different media playback options involving the connected states.

The program may include instructions for controlling a display so as to move a channel indicator in a first or second direction on a channel scroll bar and to display channel information of a channel corresponding to a point at which the channel indicator is located, in response to a first input of pressing a channel-up or channel-down key for a long time, and for switching a current channel to the channel corresponding to the point at which the channel indicator is located and displaying an image corresponding to the switched channel, in response to a second input of releasing the channel-up or channel-down key.
