BIFACIAL ENHANCEMENT LAYERS AND PHOTOVOLTAIC DEVICES INCLUDING THE SAME
Photovoltaic devices having bifacial enhancement are described herein.
Metal-halide semiconductor optical and electronic devices and methods of making the same
Compositions of matter, downconversion layers including the compositions of matter, and devices including the compositions of matter are described. In an embodiment, the compositions of matter are downconversion materials configured to absorb a quantum of energy of a first energy and, in response, emit two or more quanta of energy of a second energy less than the first energy. Methods of making and depositing downconversion materials are also described. Downconversion precursor mixtures suitable for making downconversion materials and methods of making the same are also described.
Semiconductor devices with single-photon avalanche diodes, light scattering structures, and multiple isolation structures
An imaging device may include single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs). To improve the sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio of the SPADs, light scattering structures may be formed in the semiconductor substrate to increase the path length of incident light through the semiconductor substrate. To mitigate crosstalk, multiple rings of isolation structures may be formed around the SPAD. An outer deep trench isolation structure may include a metal filler such as tungsten and may be configured to absorb light. The outer deep trench isolation structure therefore prevents crosstalk between adjacent SPADs. Additionally, one or more inner deep trench isolation structures may be included. The inner deep trench isolation structures may include a low-index filler to reflect light and keep incident light in the active area of the SPAD.
Laser system for powering multi-junction photovoltaic cell
Systems and methods are provided for wirelessly transferring power to a multi junction photovoltaic cell of a space apparatus via a light emission system. The light emission system uses multiple lasers emitting different wavelengths and/or photon energies to produce electron-hole pairs in each layer of the multi junction photovoltaic cell to prompt power generation by the multi junction photovoltaic cell. The light emission system may be located on Earth or on another space apparatus. The multi junction photovoltaic cell can convert sunlight and the light emitted by the light emission system into electrical energy.
COLOR TUNABLE THIN FILM PHOTOVOLTAIC DEVICES
A method of fabricating a color tunable thin film photovoltaic device includes depositing a layer of a semiconducting compound configured to exhibit a photovoltaic effect, and depositing a buffer layer over the layer of the semiconducting compound. Depositing transparent conducting oxides (TCO) over the buffer layer is followed by selecting two or more layers of optically transparent materials such that constructive interference among wavelengths reflected by the buffer layer, the TCO, and the two or more layers results in a desired exhibited color and depositing the two or more layers of the optically transparent materials above the TCO.
Semiconductor Devices for Integration with Light Emitting Chips and Modules Thereof
A semiconductor device includes an active region disposed in a semiconductor substrate and an uppermost metal level including metal lines, where the uppermost metal level is disposed over the semiconductor substrate. Contact pads are disposed at a major surface of the semiconductor device, where the contact pads are coupled to the metal lines in the uppermost metal level. An isolation region separates the contact pads disposed at the major surface. Adjacent contact pads are electrically isolated from one another by a portion of the isolation region. Reflective structures are disposed between the upper metal level and the contact pads, where each of the reflective structures that is directly over the active region completely overlaps an associated portion of the isolation region separating the contact pad.
COMPOSITE LIGHT HARVESTING MATERIAL AND DEVICE
A photovoltaic device comprising a light harvesting device and a photovoltaic cell; wherein the light harvesting device comprises an organic semiconductor photoactive layer capable of multiple exciton generation with a luminescent material dispersed therein; wherein the bandgap of the luminescent material is selected such that the triplet excitons, formed as a result from the multiple exciton generation in the organic semiconductor, can be transferred from the organic semiconductor into the luminescent material non-radiatively via Dexter Energy Transfer; a photovoltaic cell disposed in an emissive light path of the luminescent material and having a first photoactive layer, wherein the bandgap of the luminescent material matches or is higher than the bandgap of the first photoactive layer.
FLUORESCENT DYE COMPOUND HAVING BENZOTRIAZOLE STRUCTURE AND WAVELENGTH-CONVERTING ENCAPSULANT COMPOSITION USING SAME
The present invention relates to fluorescent, benzotriazole-containing dye compounds, which possess a high workability, desirable optical properties, and a good light stability, while suppressing the formation of a precipitate. The invention further relates to a wavelength-converting encapsulant layer, which is formed using the wavelength-converting encapsulant composition comprising said fluorescent, benzotriazole dye compounds. The fluorescent, benzotriazole-containing dye compounds are represented by general formula (I).
