Method for fabricating thermoplastic composite parts
A system and method for forming a composite part. The apparatus comprises a sleeve that molds a composite material. The sleeve has a first face and a second face. The second face has features to mold the composite material. The first face comprises a first inclined surface having an angle less than about 90 degrees and greater than about 0 degrees.
Roll forming composite components
A method of roll forming a plurality of composite components. The method includes the steps: (a) laying a plurality of blanks onto a carrier strip, each blank including a stack of sheets of uncured composite material contacting a respective contact part of the carrier strip; (b) after step (a), forming the blanks and their respective contact parts of the carrier strip with a desired cross-sectional profile by passing the carrier strip carrying the blanks through a series of sets of rollers, each set of rollers performing an incremental part of a bending operation until the desired cross-sectional profile is obtained; (c) after step (b), separating the blanks along with their respective carrier strips from the rest of the carrier strip; and (d) before or after step (c), curing the blanks.
METHOD FOR PRODUCING A CLADDING FOR ELONGATED MATERIAL
The present invention relates to a method for the production of a cladding for elongated material (2), in particular a sheath for cable sets. In this method, an adhesive tape (3, 4) consisting of a carrier (4) and a first adhesive coating (3) which substantially fully covers the front side of the carrier (4) is combined with an adhesive-free carrier tape (5) such as to form a laminate (3, 4, 5). This is carried out such that the adhesive tape (3, 4) is applied to the carrier tape (5) with its first adhesive coating (3) in such a way that a first projection (U.sub.1) is defined along at least one of the two longitudinal edges of said adhesive tape. According to the invention, the carrier (4) of the adhesive tape (3, 4) is additionally provided with a further second adhesive coating (7) substantially in parts of its rear side.
Method and apparatus for fluting a web in the machine direction
A forming device for gathering the width of a traveling web is disclosed. The forming device includes opposing arrays of flute-forming bars that can be interlaced to define therebetween a longitudinal flute-forming labyrinth effective to reduce the width of a web traveling therethrough by a preselected take-up ratio. The flute-forming bars are curved beginning at an entry end of the forming device such that they converge in a lateral direction as they proceed in the machine direction. In this manner, individual elements of the web traveling between the respective arrays in the machine direction follow contour lines along the curved bars or between adjacent ones of the curved bars so that no such element crosses any flute-forming bar in the cross-machine direction as the web travels and is fluted. A corrugating die for introducing a near-net shape to the intermediate-fluted web is also disclosed, as are a corrugating line incorporating these operations and methods for its operation.
Net Shape Forming of Composite Stringers Containing Out-Of-Plane Features
A tool is configured to form a composite charge into a stringer having a net shape with at least one out-of-place feature. The out-of-plane feature is formed by a shim removably attached to the tool. A family of the shims may be used to form a range of out-of-plane features having varying characteristics.

Method of making a sheath for an elongated object
A sheath for wrapping an elongated object is formed by an adhesive tape having a base strip having inner and outer faces, a first adhesive on the outer face, an adhesive-free overlay strip adhered to the first adhesive coating so as to leave a first exposed edge band on at least one of two longitudinal edges of the tape, and a second adhesive layer covering only part of an area of the inner face.
Tool for fixing a textile sleeve about an elongate member to be protected and method of use thereof
A tool for fixing a protective textile sleeve about an elongate member contained therein and method of use thereof is provided. The tool includes a clamp assembly having opposed clamp members attached to one another for pivotal movement relative to one another between an open state and a closed state. The clamp members have clamping surfaces, wherein at least one of the clamping surfaces has at least one outlet. A fluid source is arranged in fluid communication with the at least one outlet, and a heat source is configured to heat fluid from the fluid source to create steam. The steam is dispensed outwardly from the at least one outlet to cause an adhesive on the sleeve to become activated to bond with an adjacent abutting surface.
