Clean energy system with thermal compression
The invention provides a device for the inductive compression of carbon dioxide via isochoric heating. The resulting hot, supercritical or compressed carbon dioxide is suitable for driving a gas turbine with highly efficient use of the input thermal energy, for local heating and cooling applications, and for pipeline transportation to remote locations where the high enthalpy content of the gas can be harvested.
Phase change heat-storing mechanisms for substrates of electronic assemblies
Embodiments of the disclosure relate to an electronic assembly including a substrate having a first surface and a second surface opposite to the first surface and one or more electronic devices bonded to the first surface of the substrate. A first heat-storing region is embedded within the substrate and proximate to the second surface. The first heat-storing region comprises a phase change material encapsulated by an encapsulating layer. A melting temperature of the encapsulating layer is higher than a melting temperature of the phase change material and a maximum operating temperature of the one or more electronic devices. A heat transfer layer is embedded within the substrate and thermally connects the first heat-storing region to the one or more electronic devices.
Energy Storage Systems
There is herein described energy storage systems. More particularly, there is herein described thermal energy storage systems and use of energy storable material such as phase change material in the provision of heating and/or cooling systems in, for example, domestic dwellings.
Dynamic temperature regulating device
A dynamic temperature regulating device is for use in association with a temperature-controlled container. The dynamic temperature regulating device includes at least one heat source, at least one heat sink, a heat transfer medium and a control system. At least one of the heat source and the heat sink is a PCM (phase change material). The heat transfer medium is in thermal communication with and operably connected to the at least one heat source and the at least one heat sink. The control system is for controlling the selective thermal communication with the at least one heat source and with the at least one heat sink to regulate the temperature of the temperature-controlled container. A detachable PCM contained volumes includes a sealed housing, a phase change material and a heat transfer medium and functions as a PCM thermal energy storage volume.
Energy storage systems
There is herein described energy storage systems. More particularly, there is herein described thermal energy storage systems and use of energy storable material such as phase change material in the provision of heating and/or cooling systems in, for example, domestic dwellings.
Block and unit for storing thermal energy
A modular block for storing thermal energy having a bottom wall and lateral walls defining a chamber. The lateral walls are made from a mouldable material. First thermal management elements are disposed in the chamber, which has at least one communication passage to the outside environment to allow a refrigerating fluid or a heat-transfer fluid a in heat exchange relationship with the first thermal management elements to pass into and out of the chamber. The modular block has second thermal management elements arranged laterally around the lateral walls or included in the mouldable material of the lateral walls for the thermal management of the chamber. The first thermal management elements are separated from the second thermal management elements by a part of the mouldable material of the lateral walls.
CONTROLLING THERMAL ENERGY STORAGE
A method of flattening electric energy demand from an electric grid including during less-than-peak electricity demand periods, freezing Phase Change Material (PCM) in a Thermal Energy Storage (TES) system, and during peak electricity demand periods, using the TES to cool air conditioning refrigerant fluid. A system of flattening electric energy demand of an air-conditioner from an electric grid including an air conditioner, a Thermal Energy Storage system, and a controller, wherein the controller is programmed to implement the above method. A method of freezing Phase Change Material (PCM) in a Thermal Energy Storage (TES) system including setting a temperature of heat exchange fluid at a temperature higher than −10 degrees Celsius when directed to ice bricks containing water and an ice nucleation agent. A Thermal Energy Storage (TES) system controller programmed to discharge more than 50% of a heat capacity of the TES. Related apparatus and methods are also described.
Composite Construction Panels and Applications Thereof
In one aspect, composite construction materials are described herein. In some embodiments, a composite construction panel comprises a substrate layer, a cover layer separated from the substrate layer by one or more spacers, and at least one mat disposed between the substrate layer and the cover layer, wherein the mat comprises at least one phase change material disposed in at least one phase change region.
Storage integrated heat exchanger
A heat exchanger with integrated thermal storage, for example, having a new tertiary side utilising phase change material in between and in thermal contact with the primary and secondary circuits, e.g. of a plate heat exchanger. The tertiary side helps reduce e.g. leak flows in district heating applications, or reduce energy losses in periods of low flow through the heat exchanger. By including thermal energy storage in a heat exchanger or reactor, response times of the systems are reduced as well as internal energy losses, and external energy storage units are reduced in number or are potentially rendered obsolete.
Energy Storage Systems
There is herein described energy storage systems. More particularly, there is herein described thermal energy storage systems and use of energy storable material such as phase change material in the provision of heating and/or cooling systems in, for example, domestic dwellings.
