The method may further include determining that the first portion of data may include a first fragment of a record, and a second portion of data may include a second fragment of the record, wherein appending the second fragment of the record to the first portion of data may include appending, based on the determining, the second fragment of the record to the first portion of data.
Architecture utilizing a middle map between logical to physical address mapping to support metadata updates for dynamic block relocation
A method for block addressing is provided. The method includes moving content of a data block referenced by a logical block address (LBA) from a first physical block corresponding to a first physical block address (PBA) to a second physical block corresponding to a second PBA, wherein prior to the moving a logical map maps the LBA to a middle block address (MBA) and a middle map maps the MBA to the first PBA and in response to the moving, updating the middle map to map the MBA to the second PBA instead of the first PBA.
Garbage collection based on cloud storage capacity
A storage capacity of a cloud storage system is determined. A recipe contains instructions for reclaiming storage of the cloud storage system. The storage capacity is insufficient to perform the entire recipe. In response, one or more data objects are deleted. A portion of the recipe is executed after the deletion. In some cases, local storage can be used for garbage collection when cloud storage is insufficient to perform even the portion of the recipe. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

The present specification discloses a digital device for performing a hibernation booting process and a control method therefor. Here, the digital device according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a first memory; a second memory storing a snapshot image generated on the basis of pieces of page data of the first memory; and a control unit for generating the snapshot image, wherein the control unit primarily deduplicates duplicated page data in the first memory and selectively secondarily deduplicates duplicated page data by comparing the duplicated page data with the snapshot image prestored in the second memory, wherein data fragmentation is minimized through the secondary deduplication step.
Data loss prevention
Techniques for providing data loss prevention, including data exfiltration prevention and crypto-ransomware prevention, are provided. In some embodiments, a slack-space file system is created by using a modified packing algorithm to increase and/or optimize an amount of slack space created by files stored in a standard file system. A program for accessing and indexing the slack-space file system may be stored, and requests by a user to store data on a storage medium of a computer system may cause the information to be stored in the slack-space file system, where it may be protected from destructive malware that operates solely on the standard file system. In some embodiments, sensitive information may be hidden by storing the information in an alternate data stream of a file and by replacing the information in the unnamed data stream of the file with non-sensitive information that may appear to be sensitive.
Namespace encryption in non-volatile memory devices
A computer storage device having a host interface, a controller, non-volatile storage media, and firmware. The firmware instructs the controller to: limit a crypto key to be used in data access requests made in a first namespace allocated on the non-volatile storage media of the computer storage device; store data in the first namespace in an encrypted form that is to be decrypted using the crypto key; free a portion of the non-volatile storage media from the first namespace, the portion storing the data; and make the portion of the non-volatile storage media available in a second namespace without erasing the data stored in the portion of the non-volatile storage media.
Methods and systems parallel raid rebuild in a distributed storage system
A method for rebuilding data, comprising: obtaining, from a metadata node, a source file data layout for a source file and a target file data layout for a target file, wherein the source file is associated with a degraded mapped RAID group and the target file is associated with a new mapped RAID group; generating, by the client application node, a plurality of input/output (I/O) requests to read a portion of the data associated with the source file using the source file data layout; obtaining, in response to the plurality of I/O requests, the portion of the data associated with the source file; rebuilding a second portion of the data associated with source file using the portion of the data; and initiating, storage of at least the second portion of the data associated with the source file in the storage pool using the target file data layout.

Various embodiments set forth techniques for free space management in a block store. The techniques include receiving a request to allocate one or more blocks in a block store, accessing a sparse hierarchical data structure to identify an allocator page identifying a region of a backing store having a greatest number of free blocks, and allocating the one or more blocks.
