A method is provided for improving the EMC robustness of Integrated Capacitive Sensor systems with a sensor Signal-Conditioner (SSC). The SSC is connected with a capacitive integrating converter to convert a received signal into a bit stream. An oscillator provides a plurality of sampling frequencies. A counter connected with the capacitive integrating converter collects the bit stream and calculates the digital representative of the physical input which is than stored in an output register. The method includes performing some conversions with different sampling frequencies from the oscillator or a frequency divider by the capacitive integrating Signal-Converter; storing the results of the samplings and using the results in the following cycle to calculate for each sampling frequency a difference to the prior sampling of the same frequency; and calculating the digital representative of the input signal from the external sensing capacitor as the reverse weighted average of the samplings of the different frequencies.

In one example, a system comprises a digital-to-analog converter for receiving an input of k bits and generating a first analog output, a mapping scalar for converting the first analog output into a second analog output, and an analog-to-digital converter for generating an output of n bits from the second analog output, where n is a different value than k.

An analog-to-digital converter includes: a voltage-current converter receiving an analog input voltage, generating a first digital signal from the analog input voltage, and outputting a residual current remaining after the first digital signal; a current-time converter converting the residual current into a current time in a time domain; and a time-digital converter receiving the residual time, and generating a second digital signal from the residual time, wherein the first digital signal and the second digital signal are sequences of digital codes representing respective signal levels of the analog input voltage.

Sub-ranging analog to digital converter

Systems and methods relating to analog-to-digital converters. A delay block receives an input signal at the same time as a coarse ADC (CADC) block. The CADC block produces a multi-bit output and this output is applied to a signal processing block. The delay block delays the input signal from being applied to the signal processing block until the output of the CADC block has been applied/configures the signal processing block. The signal processing block may be a signal shifter, the output of which is ultimately applied to a fine ADC (FADC) block. In an alternative, the signal processing block may be the FADC block. Regardless of the configuration, the output of the CADC is delayed until the output of the FADC block is available. The outputs of the CADC and the FADC blocks are then simultaneously applied to an encoder that produces the overall system output.

Integrator And Analog-To-Digital Converter

An integrator and an analog-to-digital converter are provided. The analog-to-digital converter includes the integrator, a comparison circuit and a control logic circuit. The integrator includes an operational amplifier, offset capacitors, input capacitors, integral capacitors and controllable switches. The input capacitors and the integral capacitors are connected to the operational amplifier via controllable switches, so that the integrator operates in various operation modes. Operation states of the offset capacitors in a first phase and a second phase of an operation cycle are controlled by switching on or off the controllable switches. Therefore, an offset voltage of the integrator is eliminated, and conversion efficiency and conversion accuracy of the analog-to-digital converter is improved.

Digital estimation of transfer functions in continuous-time analog-to-digital converters

In one aspect, a transfer function (TF) estimation circuit configured to generate an estimate of a TF undergone by signals between an input of a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) of a feedforward path of a continuous-time (CT) stage of an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and an output of a backend ADC of the ADC is disclosed. The TF estimation circuit includes one or more circuits configured to generate a first cross-correlation output by cross-correlating digital versions of signals based on a test signal provided to the CT stage and an output signal of the backend ADC, generate a second cross-correlation output by cross-correlating digital versions of signals based on the test signal and an output signal of a quantizer of the feedforward path of the CT stage, and generate the estimate of the TF based on the first and second cross-correlation outputs.

Hybrid analog-to-digital converter

An analog-to-digital converter includes a first converter stage, a second converter stage coupled to the first converter stage to quantize a residue signal of the first converter stage, and an inter-stage converter disposed between the first and second converter stages. The inter-stage converter is configured to convert between a first domain and a second domain. The inter-stage converter is configured to process the residue signal of the first converter stage such that a range of the residue signal matches a full scale of the second converter stage.

Differential subrange ADC for image sensor

A differential subrange analog-to-digital converter (ADC) converts differential analog image signals received from sample and hold circuits to a digital signal through an ADC comparator. The comparator of the differential subrange ADC is shared by a successive approximation register (SAR) ADC coupled to provide both M upper output bits (UOB) and a ramp ADC coupled to provide N lower output bits (LOB). Digital-to-analog converters (DACs) of the differential subrange SAR ADC comprises 2M buffered bit capacitor fingers connected to the comparator. Each buffered bit capacitor finger comprises a bit capacitor, a bit buffer, and a bit switch controlled by the UOB. Both DACs are initialized to preset values and finalized based on the values of the least significant bit of the UOB. The subsequent ramp ADC operation will be ensured to have its first ramp signal ramps in a monotonic direction and its second ramp signal ramp in an opposite direction.
