Medical device with forward and sideward ablation monitoring ultrasound transducers
The invention relates to ultrasound imaging method and apparatus suitable for minimally invasive ultrasound diagnostic devices in cardiac ablation monitoring and in tumor ablation monitoring. The present invention proposes an assembly of forward and side-facing transducers and a system of embedded forward and side-facing transducers in apertures on surfaces of the assembly. This provides control of the acoustic properties of the transducer and improved ablation monitoring when the assembly is incorporated in a medical device.
Ultrasonic Flowmeter and Method for Operating an Ultrasonic Flowmeter
An ultrasonic flowmeter includes first and second ultrasonic transducers and a control and evaluation unit connected thereto. The first and/or second ultrasonic transducer is/are an ultrasonic transmitter and/or an ultrasonic receiver. The first and second ultrasonic transducers are arranged on a measuring tube in such a way that a signal path is formed therebetween, and such that a measuring signal emitted by the ultrasonic transmitter runs via the signal path to the ultrasonic receiver. The first and/or second ultrasonic transducer has array to of at least two active elements. At least one ultrasonic transducer with an array of at least two active elements is formed as a wedge transducer. At least two active elements of the array arranged on the first ultrasonic transducer, and/or at least two active elements of the array arranged on the second ultrasonic transducer, are separately controllable by the control and evaluation unit.
Piezoelectric poling of a wafer with temporary and permanent electrodes
An array of piezoelectric micromachined ultrasound transducers (PMUTs) has a layer of piezoelectric material that requires poling during fabrication in order to properly align the piezoelectric dipoles to create a desired ultrasonic signal. The PMUT may have an interconnected set of lower electrodes that are fabricated between a processing layer of the PMUT and the piezoelectric layer. An upper electrode is fabricated overlaying the piezoelectric layer, and a poling voltage is applied between the upper electrode and the interconnected set of lower electrodes. After poling is complete, portions of the interconnected set of lower electrodes are removed to permanently isolate permanent lower electrodes from each other.
