A clamping apparatus includes: locking members (80) insertable into a hole (11) of a workpiece (10); and a clamp rod (70) configured to make a wedge engagement with the locking members (80) from above. Each locking member (80) includes a base portion (85) configured to be inserted into the hole (11); and a protruding portion (87) located above the base portion (85). A relative movement restriction mechanism (M) configured to restrict downward movement of the clamp rod (70) relative to the locking members (80) within a predetermined travel distance allows descent of outer peripheral surfaces (85a) of the base portions (85) relative to an inner peripheral surface of the hole (11) when the locking members (80) are in a diameter-expanded position.

Clamping mechanism for hydraulic work support

A work support and method of clamping a translatable component of a hydraulic work support system. The work support may include a rigid, hollow slotted collet, a sleeve, and the translatable component, such as a plunger or rod. Hydraulic fluid may be pumped into an inlet of the hydraulic work support system to hydraulically actuate the translatable component outward from a first retracted position to a second extended position. The hydraulic fluid may further be pumped to the sleeve at a sufficient pressure that the sleeve presses against the collet. The collet responds thereto by flexing into contact with the translatable component, thus holding the translatable component in the second extended position. The slots in the collet allow for flexure even when using a thicker material with stronger column strength.

An output part is provided to the left end of a clamp arm that is supported by a housing so as to be slidable in the vertical direction. At the left end of the housing, a first hole for spring fitting opens obliquely upward towards the output part. A through hole that links the upper surface and the lower surface of the clamp arm is disposed obliquely upward at a left-leaning part of the clamp arm. A second hole for spring fitting and a female screw hole are formed, in that order, upwards in the through hole. A return spring that is installed through the first hole and the second hole impels the output part upwards. A push bolt that is screwed into the female screw hole rom above compresses the return spring.

Method of monitoring a tool clamping device

A method of monitoring a tool clamping device mounted on a machine spindle, the clamping force of which tool clamping device is generated by a spring assembly which exerts a force in the direction of the clamping position on an actuating element actuating the clamping or the release of a tool or tool holder. In the method, the spring force and the displacement of the actuating element are continuously measured during the release and/or clamping of a tool or tool holder and recorded as functions of the time. These recorded functions are used to identify at least one parameter characteristic for the status of the tool clamping device. Based on the spring force and the displacement over time, a spring characteristic curve is plotted in the form of the spring force as a function of displacement, the analysis of which spring characteristic curve provides information about a number of characteristic parameters.
