The present application pertains to a swivel insertable into a casing ram. The swivel comprises an inner mandrel having an upper end section and a lower end section configured to be operably connectable and rotatable with an upper workstring section and a lower workstring section, the inner mandrel comprising a longitudinal passage forming a continuation of a passage in the workstring. An outer housing is configured to seal the inner mandrel inside the outer housing. The outer diameter of the outer housing and the length of the outer housing is configured to fit a casing ram. In contrast to prior art tools placed within annular blowout preventers which have limited differential pressure ranges, the instant device allows for differential pressure during operation as high as 10,000 psi or more. The instant devices also may allow for aggressive frac pack treatments and facilitate reverse out operations.

Smart blow off preventer shear ram system and methods

A system and method for shutting in a wellbore in the event that primary blow-out preventer (BOP) system fails. The system comprises a smart-BOP shear ram system that operates independently and autonomously from the primary BOP system and that includes a pneumatically actuated shear ram installed on top of the primary BOP preventers. A dedicated control system and pneumatic pump are encased inside one or more explosion proof boxes. The control system detects primary BOP failure using sensors located above and below the primary BOP shear ram and actuates the smart-BOP shear ram accordingly. The control system is configured such that, activation of the primary BOP stack automatically activates the smart-BOP shear ram system and the control unit assumes autonomous control over operation of the smart-BOP shear ram until the control unit confirms that a complete seal has been made against the wellbore fluids.

The shear ram system also includes a lower block coupled to a second arm, the lower block positioned to transition from the first location outside the bore to the second location within the bore, the lower block including a gap control arm including a wear insert arranged axially higher than a lower blade, the gap control arm having an arm profile that substantially conforms to the cutout profile. The wear insert of the gap control arm is configured to engage the cutout when the upper block and the lower block are moved to the second location.

The present invention provides a dual interlocking v-shaped shear ram assembly comprising an upper ram and lower ram, each defining a v-shaped cutting surface. A plurality of angled surfaces on the upper ram and lower ram engage to form an interlocking connection that prevents rotation of either the upper ram or lower ram in the ram cavity and seals the wellbore. The upper ram has a surface along 90% to 100% of the length thereof that conforms to the surface of the corresponding ram cavity.

AUTONOMOUS BLOWOUT PREVENTER

A BOP system is provided with sensors distributed along a length of a subsea blowout preventer to monitor objects within a blowout preventer and measure critical parameters. A subsea computer is programmed to detect a speed and direction of an object within the BOP. The computer is programmed to detect movement of an object that is not produced by the drilling rig.
