20220389982 · 2022-12-08 · ·

A device for adjusting clearance of a drum brake has an extendable strut assembly having a toothed ring and arranged between first and second shoes cooperating with a braking surface of a drum and moved by an actuating device from a resting position, in which they are distanced from the braking surface, to a braking position, in which they abut against the braking surface. The device has a first lever assembly, a second lever assembly having a coupling portion, and a connecting member having a connecting seat. The coupling portion is coupled to the connecting seat with a predetermined functional clearance. When the first and second shoes move from the resting position, the coupling portion slides in the connecting seat with an idle stroke equal to the predetermined functional clearance without transmitting motion to the connecting member and the first lever assembly. The second lever assembly transmits motion to the connecting member after the coupling portion has covered the idle stroke.

Parking brake actuation assembly

A brake actuation assembly comprising a thrust and support element comprising a first thrust end adapted to cooperate with a first jaw of a brake; the thrust and support element comprising a second thrust and support element end; a lever rotatably supported to the thrust and support element for rotating at least along a rotation thrust direction; the lever comprising a first lever end adapted to cooperate with a second jaw of the brake; the lever comprising a second lever end, wherein the second lever end comprises a hooking seat; and wherein the hooking seat is adapted to firmly receive a connecting portion of a coupling end of a traction cable, the traction cable having a cable body capable of an elastic flexural deformation; the hooking seat being arranged undercut with respect to the rectilinear development direction of the cable body; the lever being adapted to oscillate; wherein the lever comprises a lever abutment surface which cooperates with a stop abutment counter-surface provided in the thrust and support element to prevent a free rotation of the lever in the opposite direction to the rotation thrust direction; the thrust and support element and the second lever end delimiting a guide channel which allows the passage of at least the coupling end; the guide channel allowing the coupling end to rotate about the second lever end and to be coupled to the hooking seat upon the elastic return of the cable body to a substantially straight cable body position, preventing the rotation of the lever in the opposite direction to the rotation thrust direction.

Device for adjusting the clearance of a drum brake

A device for adjusting the clearance of a drum brake capable of avoiding the canceling of the minimum operating clearance also in case of repeated brakes without the wear of the shoes, and arranged between two shoes which cooperate with a braking surface of a drum.

A brake assembly has an auto-adjustment mechanism including an adjusting link that is rotatable to adjust an unloaded state position of a brake shoe, and an adjusting lever that operates to rotate the adjusting link during a release of the braking assembly to adjust the unloaded state position of the brake shoe. The auto-adjustment mechanism includes a pivot point mounted on a brake back plate about which the adjusting lever rotates, and an adjusting spring attached to the adjusting lever. The adjusting lever rotates in a first direction against the spring force when the brake assembly is actuated, and the adjusting spring by operation of the spring force rotates the adjusting lever in a second direction when the brake assembly is released. During the brake release, as the adjusting lever rotates back the adjusting lever catches the adjusting link in a ratchet fashion to rotate the adjusting link to adjust the unloaded state position of the brake shoes.

BRAKING DEVICE

A brake device for a motor vehicle has an actuator with a common housing for a spreading actuator, and an adjusting device. An electric motor for actuating the actuator can be driven in two rotational directions, the spreading actuator being driven in the one rotational direction, and the adjusting device being driven in the other rotational direction.
