The cover opening is configured to receive there-through at least a portion of a socket and substantially engage the socket. At least a portion of the cover is configured to substantially engage the decorative light shade. Also, at least a portion of the cover is configured to substantially enclose the LED and shield.

A UV light medium can be enhanced to provide specific optical properties that assist in distributing UV light from a UV source to achieve a defined UV light pattern and effective UV disinfection. The properties of the UV light medium can be selected and enhanced by loading the medium with additives, applying a UV blocking pattern, varying the UV light medium material type, thickness, shape, layering, or surface texture. The medium can be any material subject to UV light during a UV treatment or disinfection process. The UV light medium can create a generally uniform UV light pattern that reduces UV hot spots. The UV light medium can diffuse UV light at a target area to enables more robust disinfection with the same or lower UV source intensity.

ILLUMINATION SYSTEMS WITH OPTICAL WAVEGUIDE HAVING DIFFUSER ELEMENTS

An illumination system for a medical technology therapy and/or diagnosis system is provided. The system includes a light source, an optical waveguide, and an optical element in the form of a diffuser element. The optical waveguide has a first end that is connectable or assignable to the light source and the diffuser element is arranged at a second end of the optical waveguide so that light from the optical waveguide is injected into the optical element. The optical element has a lateral surface covered by a reflector layer at least in a section thereof. The reflector layer includes a mirror layer. The optical element has a light-reflecting area covered by the reflector layer and a light-transmissive area that is free of the reflector layer. Thus, light injected into the optical element is reflected on the light-reflecting area and emitted from the light-transmissive area.

The display portion includes a first light source and a light guide plate that guides light from the first light source to form a first image in a space. A luminaire and LED light engine are provided. The luminaire includes the LED light engine and an optical device. The LED light engine includes an LED array and a partial diffuser. The partial diffuser diffuses light that is emitted by LEDs of a selected first subset of LEDs in the LED array and leaves undiffused light that is emitted by LEDs of a second subset of LEDs in the LED array. At least some LEDs are selected for inclusion in the first subset as emitting light that produces poorly blended colors in a light beam emitted by the LED array. The optical device is configured to receive a light beam emitted from the LED light engine and emit a modified light beam.

A generic reflector comprises a light inlet end, a light outlet end with at least one substantially rectangular light outlet opening, an optical axis, and a reflector surface which extends between the light inlet end and the light outlet end, where the reflector surface in a plane perpendicular to the optical axis defines a polygon. The reflector surface is formed such that the polygon between the light inlet end and the light outlet end at least in sections rotates about an axis of rotation which is oriented parallel to the optical axis. An optical cup which mixes multiple channels of light to form a blended output, the device having discreet zones or channels including a plurality of reflective cavities each having a remote light converting appliance covering a cluster of LEDs providing a channel of light which is reflected upward. The predetermined blends of luminescence materials provide a predetermined range of illumination wavelengths in the output. The remote light converting appliances may be provided as frustoconical elements within frustoconical reflective cavities with a void between the light converting appliances and the associated LEDs.
