The design and structure of a vortex flow meter with large dynamic range utilizing a micro-machined thermal flow sensing device for simultaneously measurement of volumetric flowrate via vortex street frequency as well as mass flowrate is exhibited in this disclosure. The micro-machined thermal flow sensing device is placed at the central point of a channel inside the bluff body where the channel direction is not perpendicular to the direction of fluid flow in the conduit. The thermal flow sensing device is operating in a time-of-flight principle for acquiring the vortex street frequency such that any surface conditions of the device shall not have significant impact to the measured values. With a temperature thermistor on the same micro-machined thermal flow sensing device, the vortex flow meter shall be able to output the fluid temperature as well as the fluid pressure.

Sensor assembly for a sensor, sensor, and measurement system formed therewith

In a sensor assembly, a deformation body has two oppositely lying surfaces, an outer edge segment and a sensor blade extending from a surface outward. A protective apparatus protects the deformation body from pressure surges or abrupt changes of temperature on its surface. The protective apparatus includes at least one plate, extending radially inwardly so that a cavity is formed, which accommodates a region of the sensor blade adjoining the deformation body and remote from the distal end of the sensor blade, forming a gap between the plate and sensor blade. A sensor formed by the sensor assembly and a transducer element coupled therewith can be used for registering pressure fluctuations in a flowing fluid, such as steam having a temperature of 400 C and/or, a pressure of greater than 140 bar in order to measure flow parameters of the fluid.

Multiphase vortex flow meter

A multiphase flowmeter for detection of fluid flow by monitoring of vortex frequency or perturbation time of flight. The flowmeter includes a bluff body to facilitate formation of vortices during a consistent phase of a flowing fluid. Thus, monitoring frequency of the vortices may be employed to ascertain flowrate. Further, the bluff body may also facilitate formation of perturbations during transitioning phase of the fluid and include perturbation sensors at multiple known locations along the flow-path. Thus, analysis of perturbation detection times at the different locations may be used to ascertain flowrate even in the absence of vortices.
