Process for determining weld quality using flexural characteristics

A process for determining the quality of a laser weld-seam, whereby a welded plate and a geometrically equivalent non-welded plate are subjected to a physical impact to generate a natural vibration frequency. The natural vibration frequency of the welded plate and the non-welded plate is then measured with an accelerometer and compared. The uniformity of the weld is then determined by the similarity between the natural vibration frequency of the welded plate and the geometrically equivalent non-welded plate.

The inspection device inspects the outer joint member, which is obtained through melt-welding on a cup member forming the cup section and a shaft member forming the shaft section. The inspection device includes a surface inspection unit to inspect for a defect which appears on a surface of the outer joint member due to welding, an internal inspection unit to inspect for an internal defect of a welded portion, and a recording unit to record an inspection result of the inspection. The inspection device is configured to efficiently perform in-line total inspection for the melt-welded joint-type outer joint member.

System and method of dynamic gating in non-destructive weld inspection

A phased array ultrasonic inspection system configured for weld inspection includes a data analysis process with automated and optimized gating to take into account the actual distance between a phased array probe and a weld line. The system embodies a weld tracking module and a dynamic gating module. The tracking module produces dynamically corrected overlays of the weld line based on the echo signals, the dynamically corrected overlays having a series of offsets from the corresponding initial overlays. The dynamic gating module purposefully positions a plurality of data analysis gates to filter out noise signals caused by sources unrelated to the weld, and to provide dynamic target gating adjusted by at least part of the offset.

The ultrasonic phased array detection device includes: a flaw detection testing unit inserted into a target tube targeted for flaw detection testing among the tubes, and performing flaw detection testing on the welded joint of the target tube; a drive mechanism rotating the flaw detection testing unit around an axis of the target tube; and a jig to be inserted and fixed in a tube different from the target tube. The flaw detection testing unit has a flaw detection part incorporating a phased array probe performing ultrasonic phased array method, and has a pressing mechanism pressing the flaw detection part against an inner surface of the target tube.

Inspection method for aluminum weld quality

A method for determining a quality of a friction stir welded seam is described. The method involves applying an impact to a welded plate and comparing its damping capacity with the damping capacity of a geometrically equivalent defect-free plate. Damping capacities that differ by a small percent difference indicate that the welded plate is also defect-free. This method is particularly advantageous when dealing with small defects, which produce miniscule changes in natural frequency which may not be measureable.

By having the sensor system (30) as mentioned in the anti-biofouling system (20), it is achieved that one or more structural aspects of the anti-biofouling arrangement (1) may be checked/monitored without a need for providing separate means for fulfilling such functionality.

The coolant channel is formed in proximity to the surface for disposing the phased array ultrasonic transducer such that coolant flowing through the coolant channel maintains the phased array ultrasonic transducer below a predetermined temperature without obstructing the array of ultrasonic elements.
