Method and device for providing information on an angular displacement of a dc electromotor
Driving an electromotor and a brushed electromotor in particular results in ripples in the supply current. The amount of pulses is proportional to the amount of revolutions of the rotor of the electromotor. With a flawless motor, the amount of pulses is the same with each revolution. Flaws of the electromotor, in brushes, rotor, windings and/or other components, results in fluctuations of pulses in the supply current per revolution of the rotor. By comparing an expected amount of pulses to counted pulses and using various physical parameters of the electromotor, various methods may be employed to correct a counted amount of pulses or otherwise provide an appropriate value representing displacement of the rotor of the electromotor. The time between counted pulses may also be used for determining slip of a slip coupling comprised by a drive train to which the electromotor may be coupled.
Adaptive voltage threshold for turbine engine
The subject matter of this specification can be embodied in, among other things, a method for controlling a turbine engine that includes receiving a predetermined arming threshold signal, receiving a predetermined triggering threshold signal, receiving a periodic signal from a speed sensor, determining a frequency signal based on the periodic signal, the predetermined arming threshold signal, and the predetermined triggering threshold signal, determining a speed value based on the determined frequency signal, and controlling a speed of a turbine based on the determined speed value.
DETERMINATION OF RPM BASED ON SCANNING VIBRATION SPECTRAL PLOT
A vibration analyzer for use in determining a rotational speed. The vibration analyzer includes an input for sensing vibration data, a memory for storing the vibrational data, and a processor. The processor produces a spectral plot of the vibrational data, locates peaks in the spectral plot, receives an input rotational speed, and scans the spectral plot in predetermined rotational speed increments to provide a candidate rotational speeds. For each candidate rotational speed, a number of associated harmonics is identified, closest peaks in the spectral plot to the candidate rotational speed and its harmonics are located, gaps between the closest peaks and the candidate rotational speed and its harmonics are measured and summed, and a sum of the gaps is recorded. The candidate rotational speed that is associated with the maximum peak sum is selected as the nominal rotational speed.

Shaft monitoring system
A system for monitoring the axial position of a rotating shaft includes a phonic wheel mounted coaxially to the shaft for rotation with a circumferential row of teeth. The system includes a sensor configured to detect the passage of the teeth by generating an alternating measurement signal. First and second portions of the teeth alternate around the row and contribute respective first and second components to the alternating measurement signal. The first portion of teeth vary in height in an axial direction of the wheel such that the relative height of the first and second portions varies with axial distance across the phonic wheel, and the sensor is positioned relative to the phonic wheel such that axial displacement of the shaft causes the signal to vary the first component's amplitude relative to the second component's amplitude due to the height variation, to monitor the axial position of the shaft.
Determination of machine rotational speed from vibration spectral plots based on nominal speed
An apparatus is described that determines an estimated rotational speed of a rotating component of a machine in the absence of a reliable tachometer signal to indicate an actual rotational speed. The apparatus includes a processor that produces a spectral plot of the vibrational data, locates peaks in the spectral plot, and scans the spectral plot in predetermined rotational speed increments to provide candidate rotational speeds. For each candidate rotational speed, associated harmonics are identified, closest peaks in the spectral plot to the candidate rotational speed and its harmonics are located, gaps between the closest peaks and the candidate rotational speed and its harmonics are measured, and a sum of the gaps is recorded. The estimated rotational speed is the candidate rotational speed associated with a minimum sum of the gaps.
